I've replaced my monitor's 19V power brick with a DC voltage regulator directly hooked into the solar battery pack (avoiding a needless & inefficient round thrip through the inverter) and… I'm gonna need to get into 3D-printing now, won't I… :blobcateyesspin:

@kevinrothrock@infosec.exchange in Hungarian, there is a saying “úgy kezdődött, hogy ő visszaütött”, roughly translates to "it (=the fight) started by him 'punching back' (fighting back/retaliating)". Moscow seems to be a fan of the refrain, too

"Women do not need state-imposed 'undivorceable marriages'; women need the freedom to decide who they live with, when they leave and what kind of life they want to live," she said.

Lahe argued people don't have children because they're locked into legal arrangements; they have kids when they feel secure and supported, and this means economic stability, flexible work and social support systems, and voluntary relationships built on mutual trust.

"If anyone wants to be in a lifelong marriage, by all means — that option already exists today," she added.

Apropos: I have a Victron solar charger that comes with a DSUB connector in the front where a display/controller attachment can be plugged in. The display almost certainly uses Victron's VE.Direct interface over TTL/serial and it exposes a reading (internal temperature of the charger) that is both extremely useful and not documented anywhere. I guess the cobbled-together way of solving this would be getting plugging in two USB-to-serial/TTL dongles and scripting them to, quite literally, MITM the communication between the charger body and the display, ferrying the packets over while logging them. But it occurred to me that maybe someone has made a device that makes this easier.

(also is there a "tiny houses, but kitchen" design youtube you know of? asking for a...me)

@cavyherd built-in induction cookers with 2-4 hobs range between 3.5kW-11kW in general, but generally they have an option in their menu to be limited down to any wattage ~1kW and up. So using two hobs to cook dinner for an hour, running them mostly full blast throughout will use something like that 2-4kWh.

Both Meta & Microsoft have said they're shedding staff explicitly to free up cash flow to invest in AI; on one level this is unemployment linked to technology, but its a bit different from *actual* technological unemployment - the latter sees people losing jobs due to the deployment of technology to do their jobs. Microsoft & Meta on the other hand are sacking people to take a (bigger) punt on a business strategy that is yet to prove its transformation of productivity. #AI #workers h/t FT

(I mean they are not cheap at all, for sure!)

To simplify, this means that some companies are spending as much as 10% of the cost of their employees on generative AI services, all without appearing to provide any stability, quality or efficiency gains, or (not that I want this) justification to lay people off. [...] A flat 10% bump on the cost of software engineering is the direct opposite of what AI was meant to do, and in the event that costs continue to rise, I’m not sure how anybody justifies the expense much further.
