Can anyone _recommend_ (not point me to or complain about; got plenty myself here) a proper endpoint management (including enforcement) software for Linux _DESKTOP_ systems? Needs to integrate well with other popular, heterogeneous environments and solutions ..

I will never forget the iconic shot of Sam Neill taking off his glasses in absolute astonishment in Jurassic Park. It’s seared into my brain, because it represented my own reaction as a child.

Thank you Neill. And goodbye.

RE: @nathandyer@hachyderm.io

This is why digital illiteracy among politicians is such an absolute clusterfuck and will probably starve generations of young people developing the exact same sense of ownership, self-reliance and confident digital co-determination these politicians have always been lacking.

It’s a fucking disgrace, every single response to this crisis, without exception.

Merkel once coined the phrase #neuland (“new territory”) when describing the Internet. It’s an apt description of this colossal failure.

@janvlug@mastodon.social @Gina@fosstodon.org How do you deal with Purism‘s enablement of fascists and Nazis by allowing them to utilize their platform as a safe harbor? PS: There are A TON of articles[^1] about them on the web concerning this topic, and you’d really be hard-pressed not to have heard of any of it; but maybe that’s the goal? “Free” hardware over anything? Folks, I need a European DNS registrar and domain management service with a _proper_ API and abstraction (SDK will do, would prefer Terraform though) layer.. any suggestions?

Should have associated reasonable costs, I’m not an enterprise, but I’m also no naive.

Boosts welcome/appreciated.

Energy is power. It’s hyper centralized. In the hands of global, oligarchical conglomerates. The alternatives for these established energy structures are the exact opposite: decentralized, abundant, available to everyone, anywhere in the world.

THAT is the fight the powerful are fighting at the moment. They are fighting for their existence, to keep their power, their monopolies, their control. They couldn’t give less of a fuck about efficiency, carbon-footprint or Mother Nature unless you find a way for everyone to pay for sun and wind. And for them to hold all stakes in these commodities. They never will, obviously. But they’ll ruin the planet for everyone in the process of still trying.

Unless we wake up and realize what we’re really up against. Another example - aside from the initial AP article about the poor people in Cuba being able to divorce themselves from said energy monopoly in small doses - is “green hydrogen” as a source of fuel.

The reason we’ve seen so so many pushes across a vast amount of industries for hydrogen to become the next source of fuel is simple: it keeps the status quo. You keep the refineries, the fuel tankers, trucks, warehouses, logistical processes, pipelines, trade routes, white collar jobs, blue collar jobs, engine designs (the list goes on almost indefinitely). Literally, the closest to what “solving climate change” would look like if we were to just keep the existing power structures.

Burning “green hydrogen” would still be as inefficient as gas obviously, with our current combustion engines. But producing green hydrogen is also really expensive. So you’d need subsidies, where’s that money coming from? Green hydrogen also obviously cannot even be produced in quantities just the most important industries would need it in to replace natural gas, not even speaking about trucks, or cars, or planes. It’s a mirage. There is so much wrong with this idea, it’s ridiculous.

Especially if you consider the alternative. Where every single sqm of exposed surface can potentially be turned into an energy collector. Where wind in abundance charges batteries that last a neighborhood for days, even without clear skies or renewed gusts. Where people are no longer dependent on energy markets, power companies, an intricate web of logistical processes that ship liquid energy to the remotest ends of the earth. Because the energy is already there.

I wish we’d talk about this challenge more than about “solving climate change”. I know this might be controversial for some, but we will not win the fight if we simply focus on climate change. We will only win it by fighting the people and corporations benefiting from the status quo the most, that keep us on the fossil fuel needle like the energy junkies that we are.

The true power lies in decentralization, in community, in harnessing the power of cooperation. Climate change is the reason, green energy is the lever, but the fight is the one against dependence and existing power structures.

Our HP “Neverstop” stops so often and isn’t available for printing it’s a fucking disaster. I had bought it a few years ago in the hopes that I wouldn’t need to care about it at all.. and it hasn’t required for any specific toner or hardware-bound maintenance. But all of that is for absolutely nothing if I cannot print on the damn thing whenever I need to (and I don’t need to very often)

I wish Open Printer was already a thing :( https://www.crowdsupply.com/open-tools/open-printer

@zhenech@chaos.social I have actually watched the development of the Terraform provider for their DNS service closely, their API documentation is a mess though (their OpenAPI spec doesn’t even validate) and the provider is unreliable. Their registration flow also adds all sorts of unnecessary cruft to each registered domain, which is pretty hard to “import”, so unfortunately, swing and a miss :/ Doesn’t help that their main money maker is their cloud, so the DNS part of the provider sees little attention
