This is the good stuff.
• The depaving groups reclaiming urban green space: These forward-thinking organizations have depaved parking lots – and turned them into paradise.
Article includes comments from @seachanger@alaskan.social who heads a depaving org in Portland, Oregon, USA. The movement is worldwide.

New biopic about #jazz pianist Bill Evans had its premiere in Berlin a few days ago at the 76th BIFF. "Everybody Digs Bill Evans" looks promising, maybe. 🤞
"Bill Evans was a boundary-breaking US pianist who contended with multiple tragedies and a serious drug problem. This new drama about him will draw you to his hypnotic music."
Evans is played by Norway's Anders Danielsen Lie. Laurie Metcalf and Bill Pullman portray his parents.

Big music day. In addition to the new release from Massive Attack featuring Tom Waits ('Boots On the Ground'), long-awaited new material from Boards of Canada also dropped today. There's a rumor this is a track from BOC's upcoming fifth studio album. 🎧

I've always loved this place and understand how FLW would see the potential for cohabiting with water and trees in this way.
Not surprisingly the elaborately constructed dwelling built in the 1930s hasn't weathered time and the elements perfectly; the cantilevered terraces buckled and the roof leaked for decades, for starters.
Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and managed by a non-profit, its recent preservation effort is finished.
Today's photo prompt ('pretty in pink') reminded me of this romp through the history of the color pink.
For one thing, it's a color without a wavelength: it doesn't exist on the visible spectrum.
And the cultural significance of the color pink has shifted wildly over the centuries, to put it mildly.

@wonderofscience@mastodon.social The boxes aren't moving, it's the strobe lines that are directional. If you zoom in you can see them change along with the line shading.
It's a great optical effect, though. And — if you blink your eyes very fast when viewing it the effect is gone.
Hear an hour of Sonic Hauntings that evoke complex histories and sounds of the past in this audio project that grew from PhD research into 'sonic hauntology.'
UK-based sound artist Joseph Young is joined by transatlantic folk songwriter Cinder Well; Brooklyn-based Bing and Ruth; and Polish composer and pianist Hania Rani.
Through field recordings, voice, and retro-futuristic sound layering, the work weaves folk, ambient drone, and doom metal.

@sundogplanets@mastodon.social It's reminding me of this company that wants to go into space to dim the sun. If they'd aim at reflect orbital's space mirrors they could potentially cancel each other out.

@lindasgoluppiart@mastodonapp.uk Beautiful, and looks great in the space. The ppl seated at the table get to see it without the lamp impeding. I wouldn't mind if the painting was raised by several inches due to the table height, but that's me being an art dork. It really does look smashing there!

@evacide Not sure if that's pointing toward end users or devs, but isn't threat modeling done by ppl who do understand how it works because they themselves developed the software and processes and capabilities?

@skry Jeez, I imagine that's most of us. Even if we have a general sense of how systems function it's not necessarily detailed enough to know how to prevent harm. And then mix that w/human nature and a skewed reward system.
Maybe future generations will be better able to re-gear these lopsided processes to be less inherently harmful.
I sometimes wonder why developers made systems so terrible for the average person to navigate. That's probably not a helpful framing and possibly unfair though.
