Loves biking, gaming, programming, cooking, reading, electronics, equality, fairness. Not necessarily in that order. CO₂ 330.21

Since I like both biking and gaming I also like to join them both into games dedicated to outdoor usage. Saves time and effort :-) - Turfgame.com is one of them.

I program mostly in PHP and SQL now but started out with 68k assembler on an Atari. Now and then I try something in Javascript but it just does not compute with my brain :-)

Sometimes the routing app expects you do do a bit of carrying bike with packing. Wonder why this never happens when I'm using the car routing app... The road around was just a few hundred meters extra but routing still selected the stairs. It was marked as a stair on the underlying openstreetmap data. #biketooter

@ascentale@sfba.social @gbargoud@masto.nyc @bikenite@fedigroups.social A5a: Two bikes. A: Old third hand touring bike for summer with panier and as big tyres as fit. Used on nice tarmac roads, forest gravel, cobble stones. Can be used winter time with spike tyres if the weather is not beneficial to the second bike. B: Third hand fatbike for winter usage. Spikes and a very large range for the air pressure makes it suitable for badly plowed roads or forest trails that was only walked on. And if the plow has showed up, I just pump the tyres hard to get less resistance. @marywordymary@wandering.shop I also have proof my bike was outside the house! The name of the place was something along the line of "The thick oak" so of course I had to go see it. Turns out it fell quite a few years ago and they made an altar from a part of it. Was a bit disappointed but wow what a tree that must have been. #BikeTooter

@jon@gruene.social @TOrynski@mastodon.scot Every time I see those border control programs on tv, there is someone asking how they select who to control and it always comes down to either a hunch, a feeling or experience. There is no scientific method (how would that work?), they are just left inventing their own way and that *will* be based on their own prejudice.

@thorsten4future @cmconseils That is my life's philosophy. I think about this comic every time I take a shortcut. If you find your park having a two lane shortcut over the grass, you have done a bad job planning that park for the actual users. I would try to plan out where people will be walking/biking and do those as roads. Then I would wait a year to see where the grass disappears and make that into gravel roads at least. I have seen a few places where that has happened around here.

@alda Did you ever have a male voice in english dubbed over with a female voice in english? At the same time? Slightly out of sync so the whole instructional movie was impossible to watch and I could find no way of turning off the extra track... It was either both or nothing.

@cojajo@mastodon.social @rpsu@mas.to I know someone that had a burnout a few years ago. She just stopped moving the clock. It wasn't the only change she did in her life, she in general changed everything from leaving job and husband to moving town so I guess stopping with the insanity of daylight savings time wasn't such a big step any more 🙂

@gcvsa @ascentale @bikenite The question was not about if I worry about systainability of bicycles, it was about getting rid of second hand engine oil and PFAS. The problem with PFAS is not only the amount that gets off the chain and into the drain/nature when I clean the bike, it is mostly the very concentrated pollution around the production sites. The problem with old reused engine oil is the sticky dust-grinding wear on the chain that makes me change chains four times per year. #bikenite

@alda Around 1990 our video recorder for VHS tapes could record video and three audio tracks separately. One stereo and two mono (L/R) channels on any VHS tape. So you could do your own dubbing if you wanted to and if you owned a microphone. On any commersial or private VHS tape.

@PedestrianError Well that's not at all what we taught our daughter. She quickly figured out where to aim. When a boy tried to hunt her at school she did a little piruett with the foot out. He spent the rest of the day in class very quiet laying on the sofa. And there was not a peep from the teachers about it. But yes, in general women is taught a lot more respect than men. And that certainly has to change. If we stop teaching the girls or start teaching the boys is up for discussion 🙂

@tsturm I noticed a few years ago that a contractor was sounding very strange in email conversations. Overy optimistic and extremely explainable for being a supposedly very buzy company. It was a very creepy way of talking for a swedish contractor so we didn't do much business with that company. I didn't realize it at the time but later I knew why I was having such a strange feeling. Later when looking back at the mails I'm 100% sure it was AI written. Because it said ChatGPT in hidden places.

@jascha Maybe that is why physical excercise works for some? You focus on biking or you are dead-focus. I very much enjoy biking, following the route the orienteering game opens up depending on how other players are blocking my intended route. Having to calculate a different route that takes 16 minutes so the other route opens up just at the time when arrive there again without anyone else blocking first. There are so much else to focus on while biking, it is somehow calming and de-stressing.

@wibble @dwillanski I always had problems with autocorrect. Fixing stuff takes longer than just typing it by hand so I just stopped using it. Is probably because I need mine to do three languages so it just can't get the right words. Anyway since I'm having problems with my eyes, I switched to Thumb key. That way I don't have to see the keys as long as I can see the nine squares. All letters are press or swipe and quickly becomes automatic gestures.

Tech workers do not like Unions because they are temporarily inconvenienced billionaires. Unions would actively work against them when they try to exploit their workers later.

All my techworker friends are unionized in Sweden.

@zimzat I do have asthma and perfume allergy. It's pretty fun trying to explain to people, they just don't believe it's a problem. They need to smell good, that's about it in thought process. All those tumble dryers drying clothes that has been overdosed on softener. Blowing out the perfumed air around the house, real nice to come past biking and needing the airflow unconstricted. Or when it's nice weather and everyone has a grill out. Or is it a smoker? Sometimes I can't tell the difference...

@nini@oldbytes.space In a democracy there is sadly this very important thing with education. The first thing we (as a society) do is to cut down on the young, the disabled, the old and the sick. Because we work so hard and we deserve the money since we all are temporarily inconvenienced billionaires. What I mean with "we" in this case is the majority of the voters. We do not read books, only the propaganda and since that is pushed out with the extreme rightwing and Quatar money, that will be skewed right.

So yes, changing environments/rotating groups might be a very good idea to see what realy goes on in society. (The group had also frozen out several women, not just that man) (Please don't take this as whataboutism or something, just trying to say I was so blind in very limited world)

@anarodrigues@front-end.social This might be a very good idea! The last 20-odd years I spent at jobs where the majority was women (I was mostly the only male). It has been very friction free in my view so I'm spared any of this crap thankfully. But I had a few peaks at the other side of the coin when I was visiting the other branch in south sweden. A male salesperson brought one of the women working there to tears. Thankfully we have a good boss that took care of the idiot even though he was owners friend.

@Epic_Null @arclight The work needed for becoming so unionized took blood sweat and tears, there were even a few bodies involved. But since then it has normalized pretty well and is now liked both by the industry and the workers. Unions help the workers but also the companies to work well. The funny thing with Sweden is that we don't have that much laws saying what the companies are allowed to do. This is up for discussion with the union. What Tesla is doing now might force new laws instead.

@internic HTML ignores any white space including tab, space, new line and probably others in newer encodings I don't know about 🙂 So a nice book written in ascii with linebreaks and empty lines between paragraphs becomes just one long line-wrapping paragraph. I learned touch-typing 35 years ago and then it was only one space after period so that might be country dependant just like date formats.

And some of the people putting down the plumbing in the street, at the same time put down a fiber network that we have been running fast fiber internet connections to private homes since 30 years. :-) And we do have 3-ply papers here in Sweden.

This is what happens when you buy a system from some other company and don't want to pay them to update when laws change. You will have to find a way to continue using your old system. Our old database had a field called something like "active_0_or_1" for this, 25 years ago. And it wasn't even consistent with 0 or 1 being active...
