RE: https://social.wake.st/@liaizon/116801146298996738 We’re totally fucked if judges can openly say they’re sentencing people who haven’t committed a crime simply for holding an opinion. “…prosecutors folded defendants who were not alleged to have committed any act of violence into a case…” “In Batten’s case, prosecutors relied on her black garb… in Soto’s, prosecutors argued that her black clothing and her operation of a small printing press … tied her to the conspiracy. Both received sentences of 50 years”

Was wondering why my MacBook was getting hot, looked in Activity Monitor, two performance cores both sitting at 100% usage from the Apple Health app within an invisible iPhone Simulator instance that was spawned automatically by Xcode for UI previews in a window that isn’t even open anymore and infinitely relaunches itself when quit.

What an incredible platform to develop for

Too many devs think any rich text is a problem they can just throw HTML at (*cough* mastodon API *cough* activitypub *cough*). Congratulations, you just threw all of HTML, Javascript, and CSS's security and privacy issues on top of your problem. Now you have a pile of problems.

Here at Borg Cube, we care about your privacy. That’s why we added industry-leading safeguards so our devices’ privacy light can’t be disabled, to let you know you’re being recorded while we add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own. Resistance is futile.

Awful that security put lives at risk by letting such a horrible person into the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

I mean, he had 34 felony convictions and was found liable for sexual assault!

Someone like that should never have been allowed near Washington DC in the first place

Giving people 30-50 year sentences for thinking thoughts against the actions of an administration that has, at most, 2.5 years left, is a glimpse of how much deeper this goes than just the current administration.

“Just hang in there until 2029 and the nightmare will be over” ain’t gonna cut it.

Bluesky bridge in theory: seamlessly follow people across social networks with your mastodon account (even though there’s already a protocol to do that…)

Bluesky bridge in practice: your feed is full of inscrutable links that take you to this

RE: https://mastodon.online/@dale_price/116806747201621919

Ah, they raised the prices of the Apple TV 4K to $200-$250. That must be why they didn’t bother updating the OS. They knew they wouldn’t be able to sell more than like five of them ever again.

Mastodon.online

Dale Price (@dale_price@mastodon.online)

Two betas in and the #tvOS 27 UI is still 100% visually unchanged from tvOS 26. It still has the iOS 26-style liquid glass with the 45° skewed lighting and the plasticky looking icons (& still no Icon Composer support!) and everything. I know the rumors say there’s a new Apple TV device coming soon, but I have a hard time imagining they would release new hardware with the software using a visual style they’ve moved on from (& whose creator has moved on from Apple, lol)

Atom and JSON Feed aren’t really any better. Can anyone tell me what the intended security origin is for the snippets of HTML content included in feeds? I doubt if even the authors of these format specs thought about it. The atom spec, despite being written in the style of an engineering document, literally just says “pay particular attention to the security of” elements where the origin would matter. No amount of my attention is going to make up for the gaping holes in your spec, sorry

“Fix” frequently reported bugs in your open source repo with this one weird trick!

Find the first time it was reported five years ago, close that one for being inactive, then mark all the subsequent reports as duplicates of that one! It’s like the bug fixed itself!

(brought to you by the massive audio distortion I’m experiencing in a popular open source game streaming thing)

Suuuuure. I have a bridge to sell you but you need to be quick because the San Francisco Highway and Transportation District is trying to steal it from me because it’s too good of a bridge and they’re going to get away with it if you don’t buy it fast enough.

It’s fun watching the same people on Mastodon go back and forth between “nobody but the owner of a computer should ever be able to unlock it” and “computers should have backdoors so the manufacturer can unlock it for the new owner if a previous owner/theft victim forgets to do that before they sell it/it gets stolen"

tired: writing the structure of your website in HTML so it works nice and the styling in CSS so it looks nice

wired: writing random bullshit in HTML so it looks and works like random bullshit, and writing your styling in JS so everyone can see how bad you are at writing HTML while they wait for your megabytes of javascript to finish running

27 beta 2 made the app opening/closing animations on my M1 iPad run at 120fps again for the first time since iPadOS 18 (they looked like <10fps in every version of 26), but 27 beta 3 brought them back down to ~30fps 😒

Edit: Default or Dark icons allow the home screen to run at 120fps, Clear runs ~20-30, Tinted (which I thought would be the same as clear since it’s the same effect with a tint) runs at 60.

Is it just me or did yesterday's #macOS and #iOS security update completely break #Safari to where it straight up won't render most websites anymore?

For example, this is what Mastodon looks like now (it’s not a Mastodon problem, almost all websites look something like this).

If I try to open the web inspector to see what happened, it’s… also totally blank
