Crystal for Mastodon

Crystal is an app for watching Mastodon feeds as slideshows on your Apple TV. Browse hashtags, save your favorites, and enjoy.

Crystal is now available on the App Store on Apple TV: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/crystal-for-mastodon/id6479724862

New Crystal update includes animated gifs when you view Mastodon feeds!

Choose whether gifs are included in slideshows from the “…” menu while playing a slideshow, or by pressing and holding on a gif thumbnail

Crystal is ready for tvOS 26 when it releases on Monday. See a preview of Crystal’s Liquid Glass design:

A note on compatibility: I'm calling version 1.0 "Crystal for Mastodon", but it *should* work with other Fediverse servers that have a similar API like #Pixelfed, #GoToSocial, and so on – I just haven't tested these thorougly yet, so I can't promise everything will work.

If you’d like to try the app with a non-Mastodon server without having to buy it first, there are open TestFlight spots available and you’ll get compatibility improvements before anyone else: https://testflight.apple.com/join/NKpHVXt3

Crystal shoutout in today’s #TrunkAndTidbits! Thanks @andypiper@macaw.social @MastodonEngineering@mastodon.social !

Crystal isn’t an app that puts Mastodon feeds on Apple TV, it’s an app that puts Mastodon feeds on Apple TV.

Hope that clarifies things.

Crystal 1.3 is out. If you’ve adjusted Settings > Accessibility > Text Size (new in tvOS 27), this update has fixes for text getting cut off or not resizing properly.

Also:

• Crystal now displays animated custom emoji (can be disabled in settings)
• Fixed a bug where the scroll indicator could get stuck during slideshows and not disappear
• Miscellaneous other bug fixes
