One of the cooler features is the "federated" timeline that shows you *everything*.
You can watch the internet's stream of consciousness in near real time. The most "information super highway" I have experienced yet.
Also, check out #mosstodon
And Filters. Filters are great!
So I still use reddit.
UI issues and new UI and old.reddit etc are well known things and from what I hear the new UI just kept getting worse. They are embedding some media, like youtube. Now shorts have firmly estabilshed themselves.
This is what they look like to me: I have a 4k screen, I get a 158x236 thingy, no controls, no maximize, no "watch on youtube", nothing.
No title either. "The"?
It's so hostile to use... fascinating.

I think it's easier to say that Hanlon's razor is simply wrong, because the world has bad actors in it that do things maliciously.
I don't think they're functionally similar either.

huh? Neeee.

...that's just passkeys though, right?
What is this hypothetical storage medium that you don't have to care about, but also have to care about enough that it doesn't fall into the wrong hands and that *isn't* tied to some user account, or is a literal piece of hardware you can just lose?

Since it was a big problem with a very desirable outcome, they have a website.
https://reproducible-builds.org/
I think a major problem was that different hardware or architecture or versions of compilers produce different binaries that still work the same. That's why you couldn't just hash everything and compare.
And reproducible builds compensate for those minimal variations.

Hmmm. Yes.
Of course it could be that your brain simply can't contain the vast(!) intellect required to write python. That's not your fault, it's a skill that can only be acquired by studying in a sufficiently pure field. Please consult the chart:
https://xkcd.com/435/
Yes that was sarkasm.
This is serious: I don't like that example. Don't use list comprehensions like that.

I want this so bad.
It doesn't even need to track every project under the sun, but if it's a library, the top 5 to top 10 projects that rely on it should give a good indication if the change is big and annoying or small.

@ErikUden@mastodon.de sure, but that's in the terms of almost all online products.

Because mastodon.social/terms gives me a 404...
Hmmm where are those for mastodon.de Mr. Vertretungsberechtigter? 😜

@Edent@mastodon.social do you have data to back up the claim that those are the reasons that people who could be contributing, are choosing not to?
Because I would like to contribute and none of those reasons apply to me. #linux
The thing I want is actually good documentation that I can read to get me where I can be effective. And speedy replies.

I hope I don't forget to do it myself, but if I do, I'd like to request a short-ish custom text field. Maybe like a mastodon post.
Unless there are already different methods of attaching custom text like comments.
I'm sure there are future or custom use cases where additional info would be nice and there should be a place to put them.
E.g. a uid to correlate to some other data source.

Not saying this is "wrong", but what are the reasons for that, I would imagine that most data on such a forge is either just code or portable?
So which parts are not easy to move and why?

That is true.
Personal opinion: I don't like list comprehensions. Mostly because they allow the constructions of foot guns and people then saying "see, python is so complicated".
The (imo) correct solution is to:
def get_cwd_files():
my_files = []
for filename in os.listdir():
my_files.append(f"{os.get_pwd()}/{filename}")
return my_files
And then just use that function.
get_cwd_files()
But... (1/2)

...what are we doing here?
I feel silly if I'm telling someone in a university teaching position that functions and encapsulation exist.
That's a five line function. Not being able to find a better solution than a list comprehension doesn't show me a willingness to experiment I would expect.
It's not a serious argument.
It's fine to not like something. I don't care.
What irks me is implying scientific authority and then showing a lack of... openness for the thing.
