@futurebird @ModestinoSycamore @benroyce @dgar @geckzilla Well in school we were always told a tumbnail is around a cm, although that is probably very rough and depends on the person. One thing that was a surprise to me in that regard is that in TV shows and so on we always got told that carob seeds were used as a standard of weight because they always weigh the same. A year ago I got my hands on some actual carob and had a very precise scale with me and turns out they differ in weight by a lot like 20 % or more. Maybe if you take packs of 50 or 100 you get statistical averaging.

@compfu@mograph.social @alxd@writing.exchange I think that is complete fantasy and a really dumb idea. You kind of want the wind turbine to have a lot of drag, but that means it will have to compensate a lot of forces, which I don't think you want to do with a couple of cables.

I long had the desire to learn some #dutch and on a reddit post I found the recommendation to watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zDlkd0KZj8g&list=PLqSaUrah-p_l6Q4aZeMDEXwx73wWDJpnn and I remember watching it as a kid and it is so sweet. Speaking English and German I can understand most of what is going on so it is a real pleasure watching it even without any real dutch language skills.

Wonder if there are any other things out there that you can recommend?

@davep Just make sure that they Ohm in sequence and not in parallel. Otherwise the total protest value will be smaller than each one individually. I guess that's why being in solitude is so important in buddhism.

Some recommendations for people who like to learn languages. I will travel to the Netherlands next month for some time and thought I would start learning some #dutch .

1 yt channel, 1 podcast and a tv show that helped me immensely up till now:

Alfred J. Kwak https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zDlkd0KZj8g&list=PLqSaUrah-p_l6Q4aZeMDEXwx73wWDJpnn&index=1&pp=iAQB

what a lovely and heart warming TV show, and I am only at episode 7 or so.
And the childhood memories, because I used to watch it in German as a child!

een beetje nederlands podcast

https://www.eenbeetjenederlands.nl
Honestly I learned so much about dutch history and everyday life. I love to absorb a countries history and culture through their language.

and finally the channel
@learnwithdutchly@www.youtube.com

which is a lovely way to get to know dutch in everyday situations. Through the channel I found out about the comprehensible input method to learn languages, which for me now seems the way to go.

There is a wiki for this method, where for many languages you can find resources.

Is there software out there that implements some mathematical algorithms to distribute goods / chores fairly. The idea is to utilize some hard work put in by people who do math's to make organizing communities easier. https://www.uni-siegen.de/fb6/aan/optimierung/publikationen/download/cake.pdf #math #mathematic #community #society

@blinry@chaos.social Oh and regarding the water going into the nose, you can train to push out just enough air through your nose so there is no water going into your nose. I don't really know how to get rid of that fear though. Maybe you exhale more than you need at the beginning and then slowly decrease. If you are just upright there is no need for it at all and the more you tilt the more you need breath out. I guess that is a lot of obvious stuff, but just to be sure.

@gavin57@toot.wales @futurebird@sauropods.win @mjr@masto.bike @MarkHoltom@mastodonapp.uk I am really lucky that I live in a place were bike stealing is not so much a thing. I do have a very good lock and also nobody here is so honorless to steal your front wheel or your bike saddle. My feeling is also that you really want to think about where you lock your bicycle. Doesn't help if you live in places like Berlin where your 50 Euro bike will be stolen out of your cellar.
