Aside from Utah's well earned reputation for their "thing", Utah now has a law that's technologically impossible to enforce, thus fostering opportunities for corruption in government, and all fully inspired by... yup... the predominant "faith". So many important world changing issues out there, and still Utah is stuck on preventing 17 yr olds from seeing what they see in the mirror every morning. Wonder if they still keep any magazine with attractive women on the covers, hidden under the checkout counter at their stores?

As a U.S. Citizen, I literally cringed when you used the word "compulsory", like it was nothing... water off a duck's back. There are deeply held concepts of freedom in the USA that conflict sharply with some (not all) tenants of socialism, and Europe has never understood those concepts of freedom and still doesn't! That gap is literally what brought the USA into existence.

I remember when a car didn't need seat heaters, wifi, bluetooth, satellite radio, heated steering wheels, digital instrumentation, climate controlled HVAC systems, automated headlights, 360 cameras, televisions and DVRs, powered moonroofs.... the list goes on. We don't need $75,000 pickup trucks and luxury vehicles. But we buy them. Now lets talk about our cell phones. You can bet that every single bit of tech designed to "make your life better" is making a billionaire, somewhere.

Well... Another day closer to trump wrapping up his coup. The rule of law is paralyzed by his control over the DoJ. So use private resources and investigate the hell out of things like "why are republican candidates repeating Russian propaganda word for word? How did that come about?" Or... who buried the complaint filed by a woman against trump for raping her while she was under aged and in Epstein's control? Or... fraudulent application of illegal tariffs to benefit specific billionaire trump donors. OH WAIT..... Democratic Party leadership can't do any of that, because they have no fucking courage.

I reject the stated conclusions.

1 - "Narrower roads rarely lead to more crashes and reduce speed of crashes...."

Duh! You restrict road capacity and speed by making it narrower, you thus force fewer cars and slower speeds.

Did you reduce the number of people that need to get from one end of that road to the other? No? So who gets screwed and who benefits in this scenario? Guaranteed more people get screwed and become highly motivated opposition to this and similar measures.

2 - "Increasing lanes increases traffic..."

Again, Duh! They don't increase lanes on roads that are under used or not surpassing capacity. They increase lanes on routes that are highly congested or getting there fast. This allows more traffic in less time. It does NOT increase the number of people that need to get where that road goes. It decreases the time required to get X cars from point a to point b. FURTHER.... its done generally where urban growth is clearly projected to exceed road capacity, because its INCREASING ANYWAY.

3 - "Reducing lanes reduces crashes and only causes a little more congestion..."

Reduce lanes on a congested road? Just how much more congested will it get beyond stop and go where it is now? Not much, because its at capacity/hr. To maintain same congestion while reducing lanes 50% (eg: 2 lanes down to 1 lane) there must be an alternate route available or created. Otherwise, it just turns into stopped traffic. Which I know bike riders love, because I ride, and I'd MUCH RATHER ride on a road with fucked up slow traffic than cars going 55 mph.

In my view (nobody asked for... I get that...) both sides in this debate are far more selfish than constructive, far less considerate of other perspectives.... and both sides have constant ulterior motives for the solutions they typically suggest.

I'd like to see "bike only" routes created for the safety of everyone.

The funny thing about the CIA, is that they are only beholding to present truth to one individual... the President. Everything the CIA presents to everyone else, is presented with a hidden agenda and no obligation to the truth. Pretty much the definition of propaganda. Might be true, might be partly true, might be pulled out of someone's ass to shape the audience's perceptions and conclusions.

War means dollar signs for all defense contractors... and those folk own a lot of Democrats in Congress, to go with their maga collection. If the patterns hold... there will be a lot of verbal outrage and a ton of doing absolutely NOTHING about it from the blue side of the aisle. There'll probably be a lot of No War signs at the No Kings protests. But those come from the people, not the party.

I'm sure glad they did it back then, and proud of the mileage we've made over the last 300 years. Not saying I understand why we haven't got it right after 300 years.... but 250 years ago we made the right decision in the face of tyranny, fought for it, and here we are. Hopefully we can pull it off again without going to guns... 'cuz that's what we face. Again. Our taxes, going to foreign wars WE didn't ask for nor approve of. @smeg If they add 10' or whatever of width to the pavement to facilitate bike lanes, that's fantastic! Please! Use my tax money and go for it! If they don't, and instead reduce lanes on a congested road in a city that deals with snow and freezing rain a third of the year... or re-stripe it into narrower lanes that are less safe for everyone, that's just stupid. I hate funding "stupid" with my tax money.

I knew many recruiters. All they cared about was making their numbers, and they'd use any lever they perceived as being useful to manipulate and coerce a potential recruit into signing. And lagging education along with religion was and is one of their most effective levers for manipulation. "Them's bad people and God needs you to do his work..." as a kid sits gazing at action posters of the coolest fighter jets and powerful tanks.... the stars of every video game ever played... And where do you find blindly religious families that can't afford college? Red States.

My mom was a Pediatrician with a private practice. She liked to say "your health is endangering your insurance company's profits." Too healthy, you may quit paying for insurance you don't need. Too sick, you turn into negative cash flow. Everything they do, every decision, is motivated by their keen desire to avoid either of those circumstances. Its a monopoly.
