Have you ever thought about giving up tech to work on trying to make the world a better place? I have, for five years. It’s been my life for 60 hours a week.
I’ve been consistently broke and happy about it, but when my charity had to take on a loan to buy 84 acres of land… I worry.

UK and US testing grounds for each other. Over in Jackson, Mississippi the city knowingly let residents drink lead-contaminated water. Told them to boil water which concentrates the lead. I drink with the farmers at the local pub and they come help me rewild my land n the weekend.

NINE volunteers! Wheeeey we got the job done. Sometimes you get half of what you needed but the half you get absolutely smash the job. Gapped up some hedgerows, made some new woodlands, did a bit of maintenance on old stuff, and left by 2:30pm. Thank you everyone who turns up to help! 🫡

My rewilding charity @ProtectEarthUK@toot.protect.earth has been trying to replace a horrible Squarespace site with an API-powered data-centric website.
We urgently need a few volunteers to get this over the line. Grab an issue if you can so we can reach enough parity to kill the old site, then we can work on amazing things.
Get your boss to let you do this as a charity day instead of coming out and planting trees with me.
With the climate crisis clearly getting worse year on year, these long dry summers mean more and bigger wildfires. What does this mean for British woodlands and other fragile ecosystems, as is there anything we can do to limit the size of wildfires in the future.

We have a new foxy friend that I would like you all to meet. He lives in Warleigh Nature Reserve and he’s slowly taking care of the pheasants that haven’t managed to run into traffic yet despite the pheasant shoot in our new woodlands closing down in 2009. We appreciate his tireless efforts.

I don’t know if I’ll be lucky enough to get any design help but the current status is “we don’t want to change the logo right now” and everything else is up for grabs. Can anyone pitch in a bit of help? Might be able to throw some budget your way but we’re quite broke after spending £620k buying Warleigh Nature Reserve recently.😅

I was gonna get loads more photos today but
a) we had Daisy Brasington rock up to take proper photos and I’m not bringing McDonalds to a Michelin star restaurant, and
b) my niece turned up so we had a laugh because I’ve not had any time with her this hectic planting season.

Coughing so hard for five minutes I nearly choked to death conveniently woke me up in time for early doors on Holiday Inn Express “breakfast buffet”, now it’s off to South Molton to reattempt a few thousand trees after 24 people didn’t bother to come last time.

@bitwalker this was always the choice. Some stay on and funnel their cash to good stuff. Some get out to make sure that funnel is real and not just arseholes running off with the bucks. I started as former and switched to latter: relying on former to keep this show on the road. X

@GlasWolf@mastodon.scot I’ve got several solar farms around me and the only thing I can hear when I walk through them is noisy cars on surrounding roads. I literally live underneath six solar panels. Not sure what people are on about when they talk about noise.

@Photo55@mastodon.social obviously you’ve not looked at what the site does or what it needs to do around fundraising and integrating with multiple APIs, and you’ve definitely not bothered to notice vast majority of that happens as build time, deploying server side rendrerings. We are literally deploying lean HTML and CSS as you said. Functionality first and optimizations later. Network caching on maximum. Lighthouse will be clapping like a seal.
