Ah I lead a club run out to Epping Forest a couple of years ago at the start of April. I think it was in the sticky clay stage!

I still have my first proper bike from 1988 when I was 16. Only the headset is original... However when I had to replace the frame, I bought the one from the next page of the catalogue.

Accidental Utopia. By trying to control the oil, the public is galvanised into full electrification and renewable energy, heading off the climate emergency. The next couple of years sees more oil price shocks and pushes a public already softened up during Covid to the benefits of walking and cycling to "do a Dutch" globally and elect leaders that implement cycling infrastructure and livable streets. A sense of community returns and the fascist tech bros are put to bed. The end.

If it helps keep people optimistic, my mum (lifelong lib dem voter, remainer, but had a very racist and tory dad) was starting to echo some of the reform lies about immigration making me worried she might be lurching to the right.
However after seeing the speech Hannah Spencer gave after she was elected my mum surprised me by saying "well if all the Greens are like her, I'm voting green now".
Hope not hate!

A1. London (the real one)
I use built in rechargeable. I've been through quite a few but settled on these:
Front: Moon Meteor Vortex Pro - excellent quality, going 8 years and still good battery life. Tough metal case.
Spare front: Lezyne Hector Drive 400 - plugs into USB port directly (annoying). USB much better
Rear rack: Knog Blinder Link - great clip system.
Rear seat post: Chili tech camera / light - new but working well so far
Spare rear: Moon volcano

I confess when I watched the trailer I was horrified how it was such blatant anti Skeletor propaganda trying to paint him as some kind of villain when we all know he's the true hero.

A quick reminder for any #biketooter commuters in London (UK) for a meet up at the Spencer Arms in Putney for an after work isotonic rehydration drink this Thrusday (May 28th)
I'll probably be there in an FDJ jersey around 5.30 at one of the tables on the green (or on the grass)
Just reply and add your name to the list if you're coming.

The context needed is the proportion of seats up for grabs. If say only 10% of local seats were available, a 9% vote share would tell a very different story to say 50% of local seats

@ChrisMayLA6@zirk.us @bjn@mstdn.social @PeterLG@theblower.au well I'd imagine the Tories changing their tune soon. But then again, if anyone gets in with FPTP, will they ever follow through or will they believe they can just keep winning?

I've thought since the big 80s privatisations that customer service is the opposite outcome of what free markets produce as its a race to the bottom, except for retail, but retail only really works because so many costs are externalised.
If those free markets were circular economies then there might be different outcomes however.

My approach has always been to slap on Squirt lube when it's noisy & change the chain when it's worn. On my (7sp) road bikes chains are cheaper (£4) than most lube so cleaning is rarely worth it as they last at least 5000 miles with factory grease before stretching (which is years for my road bike usage)
My (11sp) gravel/commuter bike seems to be a slightly different equation. Chains are more (£12) & seem to wear a bit quicker (maybe 3500-4000mi)

Yes but I'd argue if AI or automation is suitable to replace a job, it'll replace the job at a (lower than minimum) wage, so MW isn't really a governing factor in that

The fundamental point of a MW is there's no cheaper alternative so companies will just pay it as they won't just give the work to more highly paid staff, and work doesn't magically disappear.

Does it last any longer than push bike stuff? I keep reading about re-waxing every 100 miles and definitely can't be arsed with that!

Something else to consider is the mounting / bracket system. A lot are using quarter turn Garmin / Wahoo mounts now which opens up more options which will work for other lights too. The Moon proprietary system my Meteor Vortex Pro uses is good but I think has been phased out.
Oh and I forgot I also now have a Raveman on the front which goes under my Wahoo head unit with a camera. Not particularly bright but wider angle of visibility

Interest rates on the debt? "you can keep it, but it'll cost you an extra x support people per year, with a Brucey Bonus of a massive regulatory fine and reputational damage if anyone hacks you and exfiltrates confidential user data"
They might be happy with reputational damage but the first two hit the pocket directly.

I almost want Reform to get control of local councils, fail to do anything with them (apart from break promises as per their existing councils) and open up the field for a GE win for the Greens. But then I don't want reform anywhere near any levers of power

But the appeal of that machine isn't the time to pay off the investment (as it would eventually pay off in both higher and lower MW scenarios) , it's the complete removal of a role, as indeed it would be with out without MW, hence MW is not a factor in the AI/automation equation.

I just think most managers (directors) are already (and have always) considered automation and AI investment as the holy grail, no matter the payback equation. The only question is how many jobs they can replace rather than the value of those jobs.
If salary was the governing factor in those decisions, wouldn't they be looking at the highest earners rather than lowest earners first?

My bicycles are all designed to standards. Ok those standards are 35 years old, but they all standard (excluding French and Italian BBs obviously).
