This is how to do it.

Every major highway in Bolivia is blocked today - the third day of a national strike - calling for the resignation of neoliberal president Rodrigo Paz.

More people from every town and village are joining the march as protesters head for La Paz.

"The Greenland shark is the planet's oldest vertebrate, reckoned to be somewhere between 272 and 512 years old. They are slow, as befits a fish so venerable. They live deep-down and secret lives. I am glad not to be a Greenland shark; I don't have enough thoughts to fill five hundred years. But I find the very idea of them hopeful. They will see us pass through whichever spinning chaos we may currently be living through, and the crash that will come after it, and they will live through the currently unimaginable things that will come after that: the transformations, revelations, the possible liberations. That is their beauty, and it's breathtaking; they go on. These slow, half-blind creatures are perhaps the closest thing to eternal this planet has to offer." from 'The Golden Mole and Other Hidden Treasures', by Katherine Rundell #Nature #Bookstodon #Oceans #Poetry

"Here, at this half-ass state park without a sign, with its cracked concrete bench and triangle of dying cottonwoods, the Missouri joins the Mississippi, meeting not like a ballet, or a twisting of silk scarves, but maybe like construction workers, shaking hands before a building forever half-built. And what is there to do now but love this unfinished work of the river, carrying everything it has ever been given: snow-melt streams like a cold bandana circling its neck, shreds of styrofoam cooler catching in its teeth, sturgeon eggs blooming with their translucent tails, nitrates, and phosphates, and soil glittering with bone, and this single mountain dew bottle eddying in a green-tinged foam, and the ashes of Oceti, reddening in all of our throats. I sit with my knees tucked to my chest, listen to the ducks call each other from either side of what will be the same water, and River, you and I both know that despite your dams, you will go on to grow deadly algae in the Gulf, to feed rich alluvial plants, shelter alligators and hellbenders and mudpuppies, to have done to you and to do the most beautiful and terrible things. We know the word end is never an end, but always a mouth instead." "Summer on the high plateau can be delectable as honey; it can also be a roaring scourge. To those who love the place, both are good, since both are part of its essential nature. And it is to know its essential nature that I am seeking here. To know, that is, with the knowledge that is a process of living. This is not done easily nor in an hour. It is a tale too slow for the impatience of our age, not of immediate enough import for its desperate problems. Yet it has its own rare value. It is, for one thing, a corrective of glib assessment: one never quite knows the mountain, nor oneself in relation to it. However often I walk on them, these hills hold astonishment for me. There is no getting accustomed to them."

"But, in the end, whether people know how small a portion of time is given to the butterfly, how large a portion to the caterpillar, does not matter. For they can never infect the caterpillar with their anxious urges to 'Become!'. A small apple-green caterpillar who somehow loses a foothold while walking across a stem to get to a leaf, slips and is hanging on by only two crotchet-hooked feet, is not thinking: 'Alack! I shall fall into the icy water! I shall be swallowed by a fish! I will never, now, wrap myself in silk and wake up with powdery, iridescent blue-and-green wings, fly away with them to fields of cornflower.'

Rather, it thinks, 'I'm swinging, I'm swinging, I'm swinging.'"

Cornell University is deeply connected and profits directly from funding via weapons manufacturers and oil companies.

When the war on Gaza began, the chair of the board also sat on the board of a weapons company, whose share price has more than doubled since 7th October 2023.

Students who protest on campus against these companies, or calling for an end of the genocide, are routinely suspended without investigation.

Recently, President Michael Kotlikoff drove his car directly at students. Here they are talking about the University's symbiotic relationship with some of the worst companies on the planet.

@statsguy@mas.to Personally, I'd say it was an unholy combination of a few things: Several cabinet ministers are part of, or worse than, the Labour Together faction, so possibly have more "clout" within the PLP in terms of getting the necessary numbers; The arrogance they've shown in believing the reason for the dire election results is a question of "messaging" rather than policy; The fact that the more "left wing" members of the PLP are cowards; And that donors/markets and all the other behind the scenes influences will resist or make trouble for any candidate who shows any sign of introducing policies the public want, but they don't (wealth taxes, nationalisation etc). The situation atm has all the hallmarks of when they tried to get rid of Spaffer. IMO we're in for a long ride with this nonsense.

“When you have a class of people who are hyper-exploited, then that brings down the conditions of the entire working class.”

Karl Schwartz, a library worker in Newark, speaking from yesterday's picket outside Delaney.

Some good news from last night - all pregnant inmates, and at least two under 21s, have been released (ICE guards were asking all under 21s to identify themselves, but only two releases have been confirmed). The freedom of these categories of prisoner were two of the demands being made by the protesters✊
