Appreciate the constructive response! You're right that finding energy savings is a massive frontier for innovation and business opportunities.
Where we might differ slightly is the framework of "degrowth." To me, finding large savings through innovation isn't shrinking—it's radical efficiency. Doing more with less energy drops costs, frees up capital, and fuels further economic expansion. It’s a growth mechanism, not a contraction.
At the same time, we have to face the absolute baseline demands of the next decade. Look at the AI boom: even if we make chips and data centers far more efficient, the sheer exponential demand for computing means absolute energy consumption is still going to rise.
We can't innovate our way out of needing massive raw power to run the future; we can only innovate where that power comes from. That's why the real path forward isn't trying to reduce our footprint by doing less, but building the clean energy abundance required to power that inevitable growth safely.

@goosedbear@woof.group You make a really fair point about marketing flattening the tech—there's a massive difference in computational impact between a tiny on-device ML model and a massive, resource-heavy GenAI cluster.
But the reality we have to face is that the genie is completely out of the bottle. GenAI is scaling exponentially, and no amount of consumer pushback or ethical pressure on the industry is going to halt its deployment or shrink the demand. The tech simply isn't going backward.
Because of that, trying to restrict the algorithms or complain about their footprint isn't a viable long-term strategy. The focus has to shift entirely from software restriction to physical infrastructure. We don't need to starve the tech; we need to aggressively build out massive, next-generation energy capacity—like clean nuclear and advanced geothermal—to upgrade our grids and sustain the inevitable digital future.

I do plan a release in the very near future where it will be available for any website. I'm currently in v2.9.0 RC1. There have been quite a lot more changes since. I introduced in v2.9.0 an automated learning baseline system where it will automatically make the changes to the settings for you on a scheduled update sequence and will make recommendations otherwise for others.
I finished testing the Samsung 990 2TB with CrystalDiskMark, ATTO, and 3DMark to see how it performs in real-world use. One benchmark only reached 440 MB/s—but the SSD wasn't the problem. My review explains why the external setup became the bottleneck and what to expect from an internal PCIe 4.0 installation.
