@dillo@fosstodon.org maybe consider: Absolute URLs are exclusively for hyperlinks to another webpage. Webpages should have been restricted to load files only by relative URLs & never load any file by absolute URLs. Also, per website style design was a terrible UX and accessibility mistake #Stylesheets should've been something you install in your own browser such that "the web" would have the uniform look and feel you prefer. Just a thought

@Lightfighter One could make a similar graph with Woodrow Wilson c. 1914 It took FDR to get much of the USA back on track (and still racist) And the rich made sure NO ONE will ever get FOUR terms to get the USA back on track

To get copyright protection on executables, the author should at least put the full source code repository under escrow to be released once the copyright term expires.

Copyright only applies to something human created. Anything machine generated cannot be copyrighted, unless it's a simple reproducible transformation from something human created.

And it's likely a good idea to learn some electronics knowledge and how to solder (incl SMD) and weld … and get a 3d printer while you still can… Learn how to make a general purpose computer from literal scratch… Make a computer out of ESP32, Raspberry Pico, etc… Or find a hacker who can and make them part of your mutual aid network Join or start a local hacker/maker space

@lil5@social.linux.pizza Yeah agree about IRC, I would also add XMPP over tor/i2p I added Reticulum from a different perspective… more long term, LongNow? Not now exactly … Given how commercially mediated the internet is there is very little trust it will be available when needed most Hence, pointing to reticulum as a network stack which could be useful to build an alternative network of networks owned by individuals and communities which is a lot harder to break, stop, censure… it's just a thought

#RightToRepair should be enough but it's not because it gets (re)interpreted as

"a right to get it repaired by a licensed & authorise repair shop"

We need better!

We need a #RightToSalvage w/o having to ask permission or pay for authorisation

We need a #RightToInteroperability so things work together

We need a #RightToPreserve to keep our culture from disappearing

We need a #RightToEncryption to have a private life

We need a #RightToInformation to get the schematics, repair manuals, etc

@amoroso Fully agree If you know what you're going to build because you've done it before, use Rust, Ada, Pascal, etc if you have no clue what youre going to built yet, use a more forgiving material, like Lisp, SmallTalk, etc as you figure it out ——

Webpages should NEVER have been allowed to load files from other websites.

Allowing webpages to load objects from arbitrary locations killed the web. Webpages should have been restricted to load files only by relative URLs & never load any file by absolute URLs.

Absolute URLs are exclusively for hyperlinks to another webpage.

@jk We need to move to a culture where it's acceptable to just say that something is feature complete and just stop changing it. Especially in software we should just stop at some point and call it done. "Since version 3, TeX has used an idiosyncratic version numbering system, where updates have been indicated by adding an extra digit at the end of the decimal, so that the version number asymptotically approaches π." #Bitcoin has a few serious issues the biggest being that the number of transactions it's able to process in an hour does not scale with the added processing power… adding "miners" only causes the algorithm to make it more difficult to process the transactions such that the number of transactions/hour which make it into the ledger (blockchain) remains constant.

I hope I don't have to explain that this is nuts?

If you ignore 0:
(1) Don't talk about #cryptocurrency
(2) it's not an investment
(3) USE A PASSWORD MANAGER
(4) SAVE YOUR SEED/PASSWORD OFFLINE
(5) Run a #FullNode over #tor & #i2p whenever possible (24/7)
(6) Always control/host your own wallets (self-custody)
(7) Keep your wallets offline,
only use it to sign & send transactions via your own node
(8) Avoid any which don't allow you to run a full node or mine your own: They are a scam
