#idiot47 #republicans #GOP #splc This has to be among the most disgusting things this administration has done. The SPLC has always been and always will be a voice and action piece for particularly vulnerable people in the American Southeast. This IS fascism at its worst, pretending to be a voice for justice while quieting a true voice for justice. This will not stand. I’m donating to SPLC today, and I hope every American of good conscience will do so as well.

@SunnJax@tech.lgbt I am glad you are okay, but keep an eye on unfamiliar sensations and aches and pains. I had an incident not too different about seven years ago. I was biking across an intersection, clearly had the right of way, and this, ahem person, was on her phone and turned right, right into me. It took a few months to show, but my sacrum was damaged. Unfortunately, at the time, I lived in Michigan, where the “no fault” insurance system prevented me from suing the, ahem person. My insurance company was little help because they like that giant slush fund they have from collecting all those “no fault” premiums that no one compels them to pay out in such situations. If you live in any other state, sue the crap out of that negligent f-wad. Incidentally, I love Michigan except for its auto insurance laws.

The big problem with purity standards is it opens us up to the same trap the Right fell into (he got Roe v Wade overturned, nothing else matters). Neither Obama nor FDR met every expectation of whatever left faction there might have been in their times. They both made mistakes, but they both were the best for their times. They both accomplished a lot for the country. We all must accept the fact that MY agenda is not everyone’s agenda and that I might have to compromise on a few things. I see far too many people on the left not willing to compromise, and I don’t mean compromise standards, but non-essential agenda. When we lose our ability to debate and compromise, we’ve lost our ability to govern.

The biggest complaint I heard in the last two years of his presidency was, “He didn’t do anything.” I called bullshit on that argument then, and I call it now. He actually did a lot, but the oligarchic press ignored everything he did. I wish articles like this had been front page news in 2024.

Certainly agricultural development was part of the development of organized civilization, but the concept of wealth resulted from multiple factors. Wealth, especially the concentration of it, resulted from the development of certain political and religious power structures.
It did not have to be that way. Most Indigenous communities in North America at the point of contact with Europeans practiced well developed agriculture, but had no concept of concentration of wealth. In fact, they resisted it. Their cultures were organized to meet their social needs, but the idea of getting individually rich was anathema.

@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social I remember a spring Saturday in 1978 with my best friend when we decided to drive to Okemah, Oklahoma, to visit Woody Guthrie’s birthplace. At that time the house was a shambles, no floor, roof mostly gone, and weeds and brush growing up inside the house. The people of Okemah were a conservative lot and were ashamed that he was their native son. My friend and I were so angered by the neglect that we spent the rest of the afternoon driving up and down the main drag of town, with the windows rolled down singing “This Land” at the top of our lungs. We continued until a police officer started following us. We decided it was time to get on I-40 and high tail it back to Oklahoma City. The house is gone now, but the city named a street for him and erected a respectful monument at the site. Woody was a great American, and I wish we had a few more Woody’s today.

@fribbledom not sure what your need was with Photoshop, I switched to Affinity a few years ago. You pay a one time license fee that is a fraction of Photoshop and it’s yours forever. It is much more user friendly and does beautiful work.

I remember my high school German class when our rather jaded teacher was ready to teach a room full of adolescents how to conjugate the verb fahren. He told us to go ahead and get the guffaws and belly laughs out of the way so we could continue our lesson. He was right.
