@transform This tweaked a distant memory, I looked it up, and oh right, this is another offshoot of a Dianetics offshoot. The same Dianetics that was a fad in the early 1950s and a precursor to Scientology and also spawned all sorts of other movements besides. If you are interested in any kind of co-counselling please read first all that you can find about the promoting organizations and the techniques themselves. Do yourself a favour and approach this with a significant level of skepticism. There are many people promising to improve your life with their special techniques and none of them offer a high standard of reproducibility for any of it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Co-counselling https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dianetics #CoCounselling #Anarchism

@transform While appreciating your reply, it appears from the Wikipedia page that CCI broke off from RC which broke off from Dianetics. Co-counselling has its roots in Dianetics. I can't find anything which reports that any Dianetics-sourced techniques have achieved the same level of rigour that modern medicine has. I am referring to the transition in medicine from miasmas and humours to to the germ theory of disease and knowledge of the endocrine system, among other developments. Co-counselling deserves the same level of disbelief afforded to Dianetics. Given these two items, an increased level of scrutiny and skepticism is entirely appropriate for Co-counselling. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Co-counselling

I piece of advice I have offered for newspaper (and now online media) readers is to consider all articles in light of how accurate that outlet is with articles in one's own specialty.

I think this same advice may hold for people claiming success with AI. However, I do not actually know how to evaluate this myself for areas not in my own specialty.

A software/systems engineering question I'm still posing in my own head. Anybody have strong opinions either way?

The example situation is something like copying a docker container from a public repository to a private repository. There are existing broadly used binaries for this process (docker or podman or buildah). There are also libraries for programming languages that implement supersets of this process (python-docker in this example situation).

https://docker-py.readthedocs.io/en/stable/

What sort of criteria would go into a decision to call the widely available binary from your script, versus use the library for your scripts programming language? How has that decision ended up when you have implemented something to handle this situation?

The difference was visible from the street. The reaction from sysadmins was so vociferous that management never mentioned it again.)

AI Boosts Engineering Speed, But at What Cost? | Imran Gardezi posted on the topic | LinkedIn

AI is making engineering teams faster. But faster does not mean better. When teams ship code they do not fully understand, technical debt compounds silently until the system breaks.

@markwyner@mas.to Thank you for pointing that out. And this is me changing all opinions about GitLab and finding a new place to host my Shadowrun campaign docs. As to opinions, I deployed my first set of production Puppet-managed infrastructure from an internal GitLab instance (in 2014) and it worked just fine. And the company seemed weird with their location-based pay but it's their company so whatever. This squick overrides that for sure. Did you know the sheet metal on the inner inside rim sometimes isn't folded back on those things? Now I know.
