I stupidly tried to saw a fresh hazelnut log and jammed the blade. So I put on a new blade and gave my home made bandsaw a checkup. I'm pretty chuffed about how it's holding up over the years.

Update on my drum sander build. Still to do: motor, pulleys, castor wheels, dust cover, ...
All in reclaimed wood.

Walnut bowl, 24cm x 9cm
It had two knots that I filled with some teak.
Walnut is rather soft, the end grain is a pain to smooth, even with sharp tools, but I did my best.

24cm vase in cedar, teak, and ash.
The cedar comes from an old bed frame that I recuperated.
Finished with diluted tung oil and beeswax.
A segmented bowl I finished this morning, already snapped up by a neighbour. Ash and Teak.

I got up this morning and everything hurts, but I made two baguettes from the dough I left in the fridge overnight and made myself some bread, salty butter, and marmalade breakfast, and suddenly the world looks better.

After the mastodon.social DDOS I thought it would be a good idea to have my own instance, so I installed #snac2. It is indeed light and fast, but unfortunately I found some operational bugs that stopped me from getting the most out of it. So now I'm trying #gotosocial. I'm giving my contacts a bit of a rollercoaster, but I guess you have to break eggs to make an omlette.

@heavyimage ah well you see, I'm not your guy at all. I hate extremism from both ends of the spectrum.
I think systemd is a cancer so I use Artix. I prefer to use Dinit and Xlibre rather than accept a Redhat/IBM takeover, and I use dwm because it's lean, mean, and works the way I want.
That said, I don't posess a Volkswagen, ride in rockets, or use the Autobahn, so I guess you can say I'm doing my bit.

@heavyimage I found the torch hiking pic controversy strange as it's a common winter activity. In Xlibre there's over 50 developers contributing, and there's probably just as many different political views. Tainting an entire project because of one persons views is as dumb as the views in question.

I think you'll find that in all large projects of this nature you'll get a large cross section of political views.
Personally I'm a centrist, which has absolutely nothing to do with my use of Linux where I'd rather not use wayland or systemd.

One thing that never crossed my mind is that http has an European origin. These days #digitalsovereignty is becoming an important subject now with the US leaving benevolence and moving towards autocracy.
Just to add that installed fread on my phone this morning to test my snac2 instance, and it doesn't show the error I'm seeing with smolfedi. So it's definetly a smolfedi <> snac2 problem

If I write a post on my #gotosocial instance with a link in the text, when posted I see the link.
If I do the same on my #mastodon.social account, the post contains the link plus a description of the link and sometimes an image.
I'm guessing that mastodon retrieves ogg information, but gotosocial doesn't.
Is there a configuration parameter I'm missing?

Pre-2026 Android versions are not affected, and as #eos is currently based on android 15 it shouldn't be affected by Google's sideload lockdown.
Custom roms like e/os normally strip Google''s services and restrictions, it remains to be seen if future versions of AOSP can also be stripped.
I guess the fight against corporate greed will never be over. Trying to turn Android into a walled garden might backfire.

I flirted with Ubuntu years ago,but since then it's been Debian on servers, Arch (and now Artix) on laptops/desktops/
The problem with Debian on laptops/desktops is that you wind up compiling a lot of stuff from source, and IMHO rolling distros rule of course.

1) it isn't "depreciated" only corporations forcing their own agenda are calling it that, and tried to kill it.
2) currently there are 535 contributors to Xlibre, it certainly isn't a "one man show".
