@cR0w@infosec.exchange i bet there is BUT i think it might be surprisingly inverse related. i was a cheater in games (never multiplayer) through multiple systems, PC, and what i found out is cheating makes things boring for me. initially, it's cool - i have the uber weapon, i can go through walls, etc. but without the challenge, without something to push back against me, i stop wanting to push at all. minecraft is a great demonstrator for this. creative mode is only fun if your goal is to not actually play minecraft, just use it as a set of tools for what you really wanna build. i feel this lesson in the back of my head watching people drool over chatbots. they think they can churn out a million dollar app a day when all they're really doing is discarding accomplishment for the illusion of creation. chatbots are worse than cheating though because cheats fuckin work. that's why they're cheats.

@adulau@infosec.exchange I say this with respect and after searching earnestly myself - what large language models are open source? DeepSeek? Qwen? Those aren't open source, although the term has been used for them. Open source means releasing all of the artifacts you need to build your own, and I don't know of a single mainstream LLM that also released the training data used. Again, respectfully and not trying to sealion, do you know of any mainstream models like this? If there isn't any, both proprietary and open-weight models are outside the reach of individuals without a large corpus of training data and are effectively the same: something you rely on others to make for you. The only difference is open models can be shared.

@tranquil_cassowary@infosec.exchange no, it's grapheneOS's fault. they decided to base off of android and this limitation was already known. in fact, it's even more their fault because by basing off of android, they help keep the whole ecosystem a monoculture. i know the arguments for and against this decision already. it's still their fault. compatibility won out over user privacy and freedom. android is not an open operating system, even if lots of the source is published.

Not as many features but has voice and video calling, which is rare for selfhosted apps. Forum = Yep, it can do forums with the same users as all the other apps you install. Forms = Surveys! Office = Office suite with apps you'd expect I'm sure there are options for email blasts too. Every file made by each app is shareable. Sharing new betas or patches is super easy. And one advantage it has over almost every other app is you can talk to and interact with users who don't wish to make an account. No more dark web! I checked the first and it includes synthetic data from proprietary models, so my definition of open source would not apply (coincidentally, it's very similar to NVIDIA binary GPU driver blobs being used in an otherwise FOSS operating system. The operating systems that strive for being fully open source do not bundle them in their distros.) Thanks for your insight. I try at every turn to assess this technology fairly and I had never had success finding actually open source models. Surely they exist and according to whatever definition you have, the ones linked could apply but none of the popular open source ones seem to also release properly licensed training data so they are not open source to me.
