"Who needs labels anyway?" sounds progressive, but isn't. A 'label' can give people language for their experiences, a basis for organising, and access to a community. The interesting question - I think - isn't whether we have categories or not (we do. Ask any librarian or linguist). It's who gets to make and use the categories... and for what purpose. 💟 #Autism #ActuallyAutistic #ADHD #AuDHD #Neurodivergent #SocialJustice #EpistemicInjustice

Hello everyone! We'd like to say a bit about ourselves. Yeah, we're a small organisation that Jim founded. We initially wanted to maintain the software he created, but we also support the movement of migration to #FOSS. So we'd love to host a few services (coming soon) like emails, XMPP and "walled garden" alternative front-end services (like Nitter and Kittygram). We haven't bought the domain with our organisation's name yet because of some money problems with our founder. We'll have the domain bought and a few hardware items to create the home servers soon, so we'll be able to offer you some of the services we mentioned. And, yeah, jimedrand.org's all for the movement to let people use the #FOSS goods (like GNU/Linux or BSD) on their computers, apply 80/20 dependents on the digital life for our own sovereignty, and get people out of "walled garden hell" to save their mental health. We're also for the movement to provide help for people with intellectual disabilities (like ASD/autism, ADHD, and impulsive problems). Great to finally be here in the #fediverse via Misskey Indonesia (yep, we're based in Indonesia). It's great to see you all! #introduction #organisation #asd #autism #adhd #sovereignty #nonprofits

I was and still am a "picky" eater. Everything plain, except for BBQ and cheese sauce. I've never eaten ketchup, mustard, or any of the condiments and sauces most people like, aside from when my order was wrong and I didn't check before I bit into my sandwich. Lesson learned. One day, it hit me that it's probably unusual to have eaten like that for 40 years. I'd never thought much about it until after I was diagnosed. #Autism #Adhd #Audhd #ActuallyAutistic

I am just speechless. The Orwellian wording of a ‘minimum wait’ of 2 years before the real clock even begins to even start ticking of getting a diagnosis for #Autism and #ADHD is just spite. It’s wrecking kid’s lives. Waiting lists have existed for years, but this is a period of being locked out before you are even on the waiting list. https://www.theguardian.com/society/2026/sep/24/nhs-integrated-care-boards-england-two-year-waiting-times-adhd-autism-assessments

Apparently some Anthropic researcher is going around explaining LLM language tendencies and styles by comparing them to autistic people. Unacceptable. *Very* not cool. We've already had enough of this crap, being compared to computers and robots. We aren't fucking language models. We are living, breathing, multifaceted *human beings* who happen to have a different wiring plan than the majority of other human beings. Learn the fucking difference and stop comparing us to automated, unfeeling, unthinking, non-conscious, unnuanced, unnatural systems. #autism #LLMs #AI #GenAI #ActuallyAutistic #Anthropic #Claude

"In the midst of increasing misinformation about acetaminophen (#Tylenol) and its relationship to #autism, many expecting women feel confused about what they should take if they experience a fever. A paper published today found that there’s no causal link between acetaminophen use during pregnancy and autism or attention deficit, hyperactivity disorder (#ADHD)." https://www.cidrap.umn.edu/anti-science/tylenol-during-pregnancy-not-linked-autism-adhd-major-review-finds

I know there's a bunch of #autism / #adhd / neurospicy people on here: anyone have any experience of Auditory Processing Disorder? It's becoming more obvious to me that I'm finding it hard to understand people, particularly in busy environments or when they speak quickly, but I'm aceing all the standard hearing tests so I'm starting to wonder if I have APD. I know there's overlap between neurodivergence and APD, and while I'm not diagnosed with anything it wouldn't surprise me. OTOH it has only started becoming a problem the past few years. Any adjustments which worked for you, experiences getting diagnosed etc., would be helpful to hear.

MPE? Igualmente! Então eu desisti? Nem fodendo! Is empathy a less reliable basis for morality than people tend to assume? A thread on empathy, morality, and autistic reasoning ♾️ Empathy works a bit like a spotlight. It illuminates a certain bit of the landscape – the bit that’s in front of us, or that we choose to see – but not all of it. That's a problem if we confuse empathy with morality. (Note: at the end I've explained what I mean by 'empathy') ⬇️ #ActuallyAutistic #Neurodivergent #Autism #Empathy #Morality #SocialJustice #CriticalPsychology #AutismResearch

#Youtube #Video #English #ASD #Autism #Problem

It's a bit like saying pacing back and forward within ten feet squared is a natural feature of a certain type of lioness, without taking into account the fact that she was kept in a cage that size for twenty years. 🐾 🔒 So... what about autism? ⬇️ 8/13 #Autism #Neurodiversity #Neurodivergent

They're accessible. It's easier. No one powerful complains. We say an autistic child has “social difficulties” when they get bullied in the playground. Without looking at the behaviour of the kids who are supposedly okay. The bullies. The bystanders. It's the strangest thing ever. I've often found myself scratching my head over it, and why everyone acts like it makes sense. 10/13 #SchoolTrauma #Autism
