Love my local #MeshCore group but I hate how much #VibeCoding seems to be part of the culture I suspect there is a lot of technical debt being accrued and that when the bottom drops out, they won't be able to maintain these tools.

Mir ist gerade mal wieder was aufgefallen... Ich bin derzeit viel zwischen Tschechien und Deutschland, genaugenommen Frankenwald/Fichtelgebirge/Vogtland und Aš/Cheb unterwegs. Das nutze ich um ein paar Nodes in der Gegend zu verteilen. Die Meshtastic-Leute so: "YEY!" Die Meshcore-Leute: "Ja aber der Scope! Der steh in Bayern und da muss de-by drauf. So sind die Regeln! Sonst kommen Nachrichten, die keiner versteht." Dazu das "Die im Osten stinken" "Die in Bayern sind blöd"... Boah, wir wollen ein Kommunikationsnetz aufbauen!!! Wenn man in einem Vierländereck lebt, dann kommen da auch alle vier Scopes rauf. Die nächste Tschechische Stadt ist oft näher als die nächste Deutsche. Wenn die in Bayern den Sächsischen Traffic ablehnen, die Sachsen den Bayerischen, aber Sachsen-Thüringen klappt wieder komplett, dann braucht man auch keine Kommunikationsinfrastruktur aufbauen. Tschechien ist 5km, Sachsen ist 5km, Thüringen 20km , München 300km... In der Meshcore-Szene springen Leute herum, mit dessen Typ ich mich schon vor 20-25 Jahren in den Hackerspaces angelegt habe. Netneutrality war damals ein ganz großes Thema und alle Nerds natürlich strikt dafür und das ist auch richtig so. Kam es aber zu ihren eigenen Netzen sah die Welt anders aus. Da wurde Trafficshaping bis zum Exzess betrieben, sogar Ports oder Hosts gesperrt mit teils absurden Begründungen wie "Das gehört Firma XYZ." Das waren nicht ihre Netze zu Hause, wo sie imho machen können, was sie wollen, sondern die von den Besuchern des Spaces genutzten. Ich verachte dieses Mindset. Kommunikation und Information wollen frei sein, es braucht aktive Massnahmen um das einzuschränken. Diese Einschränkungen sind das Problem. Es gibt aber Leute, die stabil der Meinung sind, nicht das Blocken oder Shaping ist das Problem, sondern wer es macht. Die Anderen (™) sind per se böse und dürfen das nicht, man selbst ist fundamental gut und darf das nicht nur, sondern ist regelrecht dazu verpflichtet. Null Selbstreflexion... Update: Niemand ist der Böse (™) im eigenen Film! Dabei will ich gar nicht absprechen, dass es einen technischen Grund für die Scopes gibt. Die Bandbreite ist sehr schmal, aber die Scopes sollten nicht eingesetzt werden um Kommunikation zu verhindern, sondern im Gegenteil, sie zu ermöglichen. Es mag sein, dass ein de-by Sinn macht, wenn man in Regensburg wohnt, aber nicht hier wo innerhalb weniger Kilometer vier Scopes aufeinandertreffen. Es ist auch irrelevant, dass Tschechien eine andere Sprache spricht. Kannst du was nicht verstehen, dann hast du zwei Möglichkeiten: Lerne die Sprache oder ignoriere es. Meine Nodes werden alle de-by, de-sn, de-th und cz routen. Nur weil irgendwann mal irgendwer eine Linie durch den Wald gezogen hat, muss ich das nicht befolgen. Ich will grundsätzlich in der Lage sein mit den Leuten auf der anderen Seite des Waldes zu reden. Punkt. Ende der Diskussion. Grundsätzlich finde ich den anarchischen Ansatz von Meshtastic dahingehend sympathischer. Es zieht die besseren Menschen an. Offen gesagt habe ich bisher auch noch kein überlastetes Meshtastic-Netz gesehen, so dass ich das technische Argument nicht wirklich kaufe. Ich behaupte jetzt einfach mal, Meshcore ist vor allem für Leute, die auf Kontrolle und Machtausübung stehen, sei es gegenüber anderen Menschen oder auch der Technik. #meshcore #meshtastic #rant

First #meshcore contact along the journey, in #Winnipeg. (Edit: I mean first north/west of say… Barrie. Lots of mesh traffic in the GTA + sprawl.)

Slept through Saskatoon but saw some #Meshcore repeats at #Edmonton station. And some friendly Public channel chatter while walking the length of the train on the platform, and getting some fresh air.

Nearing the last of the #meshcore reports:

• no repeats but direct replies in Jasper (sorry I didn’t see and reply in time @HUTT-6BD)
• saw contacts but no messages going through Kelowna (while sleeping)
• repeats but no response in Chilliwack; unrelated chatter from 8 hops away!

Probably one more check-in, in Abbotsford if I’m near my radio when we pass through, and we already know there’s a big mesh in Vancouver.

Here’s an interesting part of the cross-country #meshcore experiment that I wasn’t expecting: my contacts list has been full since the GTA. I haven’t made time to prune it, and didn’t realize the importance of this. I just received a message from “Claire in PDX”, just outside of Chilliwack. (I knew the PNW mesh was strong but I wasn’t expecting this much reach (it’s 400+km to PDX)). But the tracing tools think the same-prefixed repeaters are the ones I captured at home and earlier on the trip!

first time in more than half a year that I'm taking the solar powered #meshcore repeater in for maintenance and an update ♻️ lil guy ran 24/7 all year so far on a tiny solar panel on the #berlin sun with no problems whatsoever 😍
