@pojntfx@mastodon.social that Google dependency is unacceptable. That said, there is no reason (other than "they want to") to require a Google account to use the Play store (to download free apps). From a GDPR perspective, that is already a breach of the law, and already should have been fixed.

@ifin@infosec.exchange Well, it looks like a beautiful SQL injection.

@bagder You know that's not completely true. They may have happened, yes.
But with a finite time to write and review the code, all the time taken focusing on avoiding "C mistakes" could have been used focusing of the logic instead.
(Also, languages with stronger types do provide states and types encapsulation that can help avoid some types of logic mistakes)

@AnnaAntifa @pojntfx that's a hack. It only works as long as Google doesn't block it. Even the "anonymous" mode uses a Google account (from a shared pool of dummy account) to connect to the Google servers.
It shouldn't be needed.
And how does it works for lambda users? How will it work after Google restrict side loading of apps? Only teck savvy users are and will be able to do it. Privacy and freedom should be the default, accessible to all, and not an option, reserved to some elites.

@AnnaAntifa @pojntfx well, if they can't respect the EU law, they shouldn't be allowed in Europe.

@thomzane@daedal.io I wouldn't add large files either. But a few small (~100 lines) ones as examples and tests would be fine! A separate repository with large one is also a nice plus

@thomzane@daedal.io I would add a log file in the repository, both to serve as exemple and to add unit tests.

On an `Option`, the output type of `unwrap_or_default` is `T`.
The output type of `unwrap_or_panic` would also be `T`.
Or am I missing something?

@pj@donotsta.re @Mara@hachyderm.io what about a lint that force every line that could panic to be preceded by a // PANIC: comment block, like the one for unsafe:
https://rust-lang.github.io/rust-clippy/master/index.html#undocumented_unsafe_blocks
If they can panic. And if they can't: #[expect(clippy::missing_panics_doc, reason = "infallible")]
https://rust-lang.github.io/rust-clippy/master/index.html#missing_panics_doc
That way, any panic hidden in a function call should become visible.

@bagder@mastodon.social Some yes, but the ones that escape the first analysis seams to stay alive a very long time according to your answer.
(Just to clarify, this was not a suggestion to rewrite curl in another language)

@bagder@mastodon.social While the number of "C mistakes" is low, I would argue that, because of their nature, their impact can be worse. So, when writing code, they require more focus, which may lead to less focus to the rest of mistakes.
(In other words, when using a "memory safe" language, more focus may be dedicated on the logic)
