Hi :) Switch to the nouveau driver first. If the spots disappear, it's a driver issue. If they remain, test with a live USB like Ubuntu. If they still appear there, your VRAM is likely dying. For confirmation, run NVIDIA MATS to test your GPU

Today's run started like many others: I ran to the next town. But then I decided to keep going... all the way up to Peilstein, where I took the photo from the cliff. What was supposed to be a normal run turned into a 26 km adventure. Running home in the dark was surprisingly beautiful, with bats flying around me the whole way. Around the 20 km mark I could feel my energy fading, but there was only one way home: keep going. The faster I ran, the sooner I'd get home. Looking back, one thing really stands out. At the beginning I was completely lost in thought. By the end, my mind was empty. All I could think about was taking one step after another. This dashboard was generated with version 8 of my vibe-coded script. I implemented automatic background brightness detection, so the color gradient now adapts to each photo automatically. I made this change because the background in my last dashboard ended up a little too dark, and I wanted to improve readability without losing too much of the scenery. #TrailRunning #Running #LongRun #NightRun #EveningRun #Peilstein #EasternAlps #GutensteinerAlpen #Alps #Austria #Österreich #Niederösterreich #Nature #Adventure #VeganRunner #RunnersOfPixelfed #RunnersOfMastodon #GPX #DataViz #VibeCoding #Pixelfed

Today's run didn't exactly go as planned :/ The original idea was to run up a nearby mountain, but getting there meant entering a wildlife enclosure and climbing over a 3-meter fence (don't worry, there was a ladder). About 100 meters later I found a sign saying the trail shouldn't be used at this time of day... so that was the end of that plan -.- Instead, I turned around and continued to the end of the road to scout the start of another mountain trail that's still on my list. I'll come back another morning and give today's mountain another try. #Running #TrailRunning #MountainRunning #Run #Runner #Nature #Adventure #OutdoorLife #Hiking #Fitness #RunCommunity #RunnersOfPixelfed #RunnersOfMastodon #Austria #VeganRunner #GutensteinerAlpen #Alps #Austria #Österreich #Niederösterreich #Nature

Today I made spaghetti aglio e olio! 🍝🧄🌶️ Just a few simple ingredients: garlic, chili flakes, fresh parsley, olive oil and spaghetti. One of my favourite comfort meals! Quick to make, made with pantry staples and always delicious. #FoodPhotography #Foodie #VeganFood #FoodPorn #Pasta #Spaghetti #AglioEOlio #Garlic #Vegan #PlantBased #HomeCooking #ComfortFood #ItalianFood #Pixelfed #Fediverse

Today we travel back to 1972 and run MYCIN, one of the first expert systems, on the Pentium 1. MYCIN was developed at Stanford University in the early 1970s to diagnose bacterial infections and recommend antibiotics. In 1979, it achieved a 90.9% agreement rate with Stanford experts. The system was built around roughly 450 production rules, each representing clinical decision criteria from infectious disease experts. So I got the code, installed CLISP on the Pentium 1 and started the consultation. There was one small compatibility issue: Peter Norvig's implementation uses two functions not defined in modern CLISP, requires and rest2. A short shim file fixed that and the inference engine came to life. The version available today is only a fragment of the original MYCIN. The implementation from Peter Norvig's book "Paradigms of AI Programming" contains the inference engine and just 6 rules for identifying organisms. The remaining rules for therapy, dosage and patient-specific recommendations are gone. The original MYCIN was written in Interlisp for a DEC PDP-10 running WAITS. It was never released as open source. What survives today is essentially the shell of the system, not the knowledge it contained. MYCIN is a monument to AI history. The way its source code was handled is both a memorial and a warning. ELIZA (1966) survived because Weizenbaum published the code. CLIPS (1985) survived because NASA released it as open source. MYCIN (1972) did not. Publicly funded research. Publicly funded code. Never released to the public. This is why publicly funded research should be open source. Always! #MYCIN #AIHistory #ExpertSystems #ArtificialIntelligence #AI #Stanford #Lisp #CLISP #NetBSD #Pentium1 #Pentium #Pentium166 #RetroComputing #vintagecomputing #OpenSource #FOSS #OpenScience #PubliclyFundedResearch #ComputerHistory #Science #Research #AcademicChatter

@itsfoss Probably not what most people mean by “productivity apps” on Linux, but here’s what I actually use in a biotech context: PyCharm for Python programming, VS Code for everything else, Firefox for Overleaf, Zotero, pdfgrep, Teams for Linux, Unipro UGENE (FOSS) or QIAGEN CLC Genomics Workbench (non-FOSS), depending on the workflow. For HPLC analysis, I tried OpenChrome, but I usually connect via AnyDesk directly to the HPLC machine (Windows 10 :/) and use Thermo Scientific Chromeleon there on the instrument PC.
