@CrabbyIT@infosec.exchange I asked the fish in the tank in my home office what they thought about this, and they said the people outside are the bad kind of weird, not me.

Still grateful to Levar Burton for a childhood watching Reading Rainbow. Now I get to watch my kids experience the same feeling of wonder.

I was happy to see Riven through MYST V on the shelf in the latest video from @geerlingguy@mastodon.social . It's always nice to see one of my favorite series crop up again, as it seems so many are starting to forget about it.

One nice thing about having a birthday in April is that the new OS versions releases feel like birthday presents.

Fedora 44 and Ubuntu 26.04? For me? Thanks dev teams, that's so kind of you.

@XenoPhage I just picked up a card game about defragging a Win95 computer. It must be the feeling for people of a certain age right now lol

Twice now my wife has ordered books for the kids and then returned them because once we got hands on, we could tell it was AI generated. Now a third book has arrived and the cover is AI generated. I haven't had time to see if the text inside is too, but if the cover is, I don't have high hopes. These aren't from the same sellers, either. What a frustrating world we live in.

@GossiTheDog@cyberplace.social Early in my IT career, I had to do a Help Desk call to the business department (at a school district). They were in a panic because they had a shared Excel spreadsheet that was mission critical, but the person who made it had quit. They didn't know how it worked and things were no longer adding up. I shouldn't have, but I looked at the sheet and figured out where the error was. Over the next several weeks came in help desk tickets from this department needing help modifying the sheet and expanding it. I refused to do any of them and had to have a call with their department manager explaining that I was not there to teach them how to use Excel and he agreed they shouldn't be using IT people to do the business calculations they claimed they knew how to do. I can't imagine what it must be like if those people are using AI.

@geerlingguy@mastodon.social I highly recommend the books too. Book of Atrus was my favorite of the three because it did such a good job showing how Atrus became the man we see in Myst and provides more detail about how his father came to be the villain in Riven.
