retrimental

@stefan@stefanbohacek.online Imagine a case like this going on but governments all over the damn globe insist on giving them even more personal data for age verification. 🤡

@cultdev@mastodon.social @SERENITYWETNESS@mastodon.social Honestly, I like the name 🤣

@xandra@tilde.zone *me learning terminal over the past few months* How dare you? But yes, I agree.

@themediumkahuna@tech.lgbt I furiously agree. Any time I encounter it, I view it as intentional and delete that account. I will not be forced to continue using email from big tech. May their bootyholes forever burn when pooping.

@hen@social.lol @techlore@social.lol These are outstanding resources! I think the best thing about it is it can get the average user to begin the privacy journey. Thanks!

@benroyce Hope that guy in black has health insurance because that looked near fatal.

@ebassi@mastodon.social @scaroo@floss.social Okay I think I get the gist of it now. Seems to convert the Latin alphabet into other languages outside the Latin alphabet in a way that tries to conform to our a standard way of writing/reading. I could be wrong but that's what I got of it. Thank you guys. So why the hell does that need AI?

@nixCraft@mastodon.social I recall reading an article about some third party company that was receiving footage from these spy glasses and that company said the customers don't seem to realise how horribly invasive the glasses are. Figured people would slow down on buying/using them. I'm starting to think we *like* being spied on.

@veronica@explains.social I've still got Meta accounts for business purposes and my personal accounts have been scrubbed. My family still uses Meta, Chrome, Windows, and I feel sick just seeing those services in use in our household. I'm between a rock and a hard place. I can't convince them to change their habits, and I can't depend on the corporations to be half decent. So I'm just here watching them throw their data and privacy away to faceless corpos to sell it.

@deankirkman Damn. I should really get tested. Or diagnosed. Whatever it is.

@pikesley @bruces For a couple years now i feel like violence is the ONLY answer. Heck, we try everything else

@fringemagnet Posing for their debut rap album.

@ChrisMayLA6 Weren't the police origin story all about protecting slave owners from slaves?

@73CC FOSS devs should have a Patreon or something.

@Rachelburch Sometimes I yearn to lay on green grass like this. Just for a few minutes.

@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social this is brilliant

@eff@mastodon.social @arstechnica@mastodon.social I read the article, and what I took from it is the dad is either an idiot or naive. He knows about the Discord breach, and claims he isn't a rookie with technology, yet he still goes ahead and lets his daughter submit identification. And this is after going through support hell with Discord. I just can't wrap my head around a parent willingly providing an opportunity for his daughter's info to be caught in another breach. Am I the asshole?

@nommiesav@social.vivaldi.net @Tutanota@mastodon.social Yeah I was using Brave search very recently. I opted for it because as far as I can recall, they have their own crawlers/indexers or whatever they're called. I switched recently to self-hosting SearXNG and although SearXNG doesn't have its own crawlers, I can still use Brave search results (and basically most other search engine results) that I want. Admittedly though, I'm lazy and my solution isn't as polished as Brave.

@cmconseils Damn Laura, your meme game nice. Where do you get your stuff? Asking for a friend.

@thelinuxEXP The Linux Experiment also posts his videos to Peertube: tilvids.com Which is nice.

@scaroo@floss.social @ebassi@mastodon.social Can you (or anyone) explain what HarfBuzz is/does like I'm 5?

@warandpeas This is so dumb and stupid. I want one.

@cmconseils@mastodon.social I feel attacked

@catsalad@infosec.exchange You forgot Adobe

@eugenialoli@mastodon.social Thanks for the list! I was looking for something like Inkscape. And I'm currently learning Darktable after using Lightroom for years.

@cmccullough@polymaths.social @kde@floss.social My distro (Zorin) uses GNOME but I *do* sometimes find people complaining about GNOME being heavy/slower and not as customisable as KDE. If you were using GNOME before, can you say what the biggest benefits of switching were?

@lianna@micro.webgarden.click LMAO really? Tell me you're joking. Haven't done any research on it but I figured it was all open source. But more importantly, what are you playing? I'm in desperate need for new games.

A notes solution for those who prefer local markdown files is @HelixNotes@mastodon.social 🗒️

Looks like a cool project. I use Zorin. Minimum system requirements: CPU: 1 GHz Dual Core – Intel/AMD 64-bit processor RAM: 2 GB Storage: 15 GB (Core), 35 GB (Education), or 45 GB (Pro) Display: 800 × 600 resolution Though it uses GNOME and I believe XFCE is lighter.

@f1veg0ldenrAyz@layer8.space I want to agree and disagree. SteamOS and CachyOS are both arch-based, right? So maybe they're alright to start with. That being said, those distros are for gamers and I'd like to think any gamer who wants to switch from Microslop to Linux may be technically inclined. Still, I agree that Mint, Zorin, Ubuntu should be recommended for the 'normies'. The more people migrate, the more support & demand for applications. And that benefits everyone.

@chartier@toot.cafe This is a lie, right? Tell me this is a lie, goddammit.

@fnord@chaos.social @jeffowski@mastodon.world I'm actually curious. Why did you suggest CW?

@Lucss21a@mas.to Can't seem to get WiFi working on my old laptop for the life of me. I use Ethernet because I've given up multiple times. But I believe in the power of Almighty Kernel. I'll get that damn thing working.

@kde@floss.social @sovtechfund@mastodon.social I don't use KDE, but good on you. Make your users proud

@_elena@mastodon.social Very cool thing you're doing! Kudos to you, and thank you for helping others get into self-hosting! 🎉🎉

@sundogplanets So which of them is the GOAT?

@evacide@hachyderm.io It's from Google, so immediately distrust.

@rbreich@masto.ai My naive ass after seeing someone quote this in an earlier post: There's no way he said that 🤣️ Me now: 😯️
