kind of grossed out that i actually have something vaguely in common with Kash Patel--except i didn't just have a vanity label slapped on some already-bottled bourbon
i am finally #sewing the buttons on a sort of hybrid trench coat/pea coat i made. i always put off doing them on things with buttons, because making the buttonholes is the last opportunity i will have to totally, irrecoverably fuck up a given project...so i keep delaying. but i did it and now i only have to sew on 4 more buttons. fingers crossed everything lined up ok!
me when they finally got my hot water working again after 5 days of cold showers:

does anyone else pick music based on the sky/weather? when i get up in the morning, after maybe 10-20 min of silence while i recombobulate, i typically pick a station on @somafm@sfba.social that "coordinates" with the state of the sky outside. if it's sunny, maybe groove salad or groove salad classic, or DEFCON radio. if it's gloomy/rainy, more like space station or deep space one, or perhaps drone zone if it's foggy...
state AGs, continuing to do the work.
for all those folks who keep saying "why is no one doing anything?" -- this coalition has been doing a great deal.

current status: making a giant cheese souffle out of an emu egg! i doubled the Serious Eats recipe and it made so much that i had to deploy an auxiliary souffle dish. in the oven now. #cooking
got some new glasses yesterday and the fact that they sit up a bit higher on my nose/face so that my relaxed line of sight passes through more of the close-up vision part of my progressive lenses is a huge improvement. i am very far-sighted, and although i have single-vision glasses just for my desktop computer use (mostly gaming), sitting on the couch with my laptop meant i kept tilting my head back and tensing my jaw to see clearly. so much better now!
it is wednesday, my dudes

am i the only one who mentally autocompleted the first four words of this headline with "off the shoulder of Orion"?

(from 2025, RFK Jr fired them:
"All of the full-time employees in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Vessel Sanitation Program are now off the job, multiple officials tell CBS News, gutting the agency's ability to investigate outbreaks and conduct health inspections on cruise ships. A smaller group of 12 U.S. Public Health Service officers will remain.")

maybe they should buy Spirit Airlines instead?

it's unclear if this will actually get as far as hard requirements for the passive monitoring stuff, which is what i object to--totally fine with those "blow in a tube" setups for people who have been conviced of a DUI--this report is pretty down on it https://www.nhtsa.gov/sites/nhtsa.gov/files/2026-03/Report-to-Congress-Advanced-Impaired-Driving-Prevention-Technology.pdf
surely this won't result in millions of vets getting hassled and denied benefits they earned in service to the USA? surely not. https://www.stripes.com/veterans/2026-03-09/va-fraud-detection-veterans-claims-21007490.html
