These adorable puffballs showed up in our friend’s back yard along with their mama. Our friend kept the mama and we’ve adopted a trio of orange kitties.

@mekkaokereke oops I accidentally clicked it. And look at that, my very insecure browser autocomplete filled everything out and then I accidentally clicked apple pay. man, that's egg on MY face!

A friend suggested LinkedIn needs support for an "enemy" connection type so you can avoid working at places with Certain People ever again. 😆

@mttaggart@infosec.exchange I remember the first time around, 2 decades ago, that we decided curl | bash was a terrible idea and it’s wild to me that it has come back into regular use.

@augieray@mastodon.social Linked this to another chat and a friend replied, “Oh man, I never suspected that 'HARDforTRUMP' would turn coat on us like that. He seemed so reasonable at the antifa meetings and always brought cookies.” 😂

@baldur@toot.cafe if it was only because of LLM load, that graph of reliability wouldn't have immediately started when MS bought them

@baldur@toot.cafe Literally every musician I know in my indie circles is ready to burn down data centers at this point. It was hard enough to get “noticed” if you weren’t making certain narrow styles of music, but it’s gotten a million times harder.*
- hyperbole, I do not have numbers on how much harder it is 😉

@doragasu@mastodon.sdf.org @mikro2nd@indieweb.social @codinghorror@infosec.exchange I feel like the thing missing in the legitimate use case discussion is that nearly all of them are better served by a more traditional ML system that is trained for the task at hand.
So much of what makes LLMs not “worth it” IMHO is the inherent wastefulness of these giant models trained on everything, and the fundamental fact that having so much noise in the system makes them consistently give worse results.
And tech like RAG and agents are just patches.

@piebob@metasocial.com *shrug* I got nuthin’ -- the tea I usually saw growing up was "sun" tea, made in a clear pitcher, or teabags in a cup. It literally never came up, so it was mostly an abstract concept to me. You've already given it more thought than I ever did.

@donaldball@triangletoot.party It does make me curious to at least try fiddling with Ada just because. Don't imagine it'll move me off "rust by default" for new projects, but... now I'm curious.

@davekarpf@mastodon.social @tante@tldr.nettime.org We "regular" workers know this implicitly. Tell any programmer you have a great idea for an app, and if they'll make it you'll split the profits 50/50. They'll laugh in your face.
But "founders" are just idea men with a big wad of cash, convinced that if you idea hard enough, you'll be the next Jobs.

@davekarpf@mastodon.social @tante@tldr.nettime.org I've occasionally read things he’s written now and wonder how I missed his obvious blind spots.
The more I've been in the industry, the more I've watched success be made not because of the vision of leadership, but because of the competence of the org below them who actually work to define the software cycle and help their employees collaborate most effectively.
We all know ideas are a dime-a-dozen. Success comes from the hard work of bringing that idea to market.

@piebob@metasocial.com I don’t think I would know if I hadn’t watched a lot of British TV… I grew up with “anything that holds tea is a teapot, anything that holds coffee is a coffee pot.” Kettle is just not a word I encountered often. Could be a regional thing, I grew up outside of Milwaukee.

@piebob@metasocial.com lol I figured, just thought it might be useful to get a dumb american's view on tea, which is that it's illegal to have an opinion on it unless you were in boston 250 years ago
