First time out black cherry tree has managed to get the berries this far. Typically birds and squirrels have ravaged the tree by now. Our fluffy little miniature schnauzer is earning his keep this year! I may attempt some wild black cherry jelly later today.

I suspect GrapheneOS will see a little bump in user count and Bill22 will see more protests.

Please watch and pass along. It is important that our American neighbours learn what is really going on, and not what their government states. And yeah, probably not many Americans on here, but more exposure is important.

@tod@hci.social Oh that is too funny! Sadly in Quebec they make it with an extra 499 lbs of sugar and your teeth pop out before getting through the first bite. Gonna have to make my own.

After the Quebec ice storm we carefully selected an affordable and reputable contractor to build a replacement garage. It had 2 windows, one size X and one size X+2”. We watch the contractors put the first window X in opening X+2”, it fit with extra shims. Then we watched for 15 minutes as they tried to put X+2” into opening X. Finally they confidently stated “you bought the wrong size windows”, to which we replied “or, you put them in the wrong openings.” Hiring contractors is tough.

@kev@fosstodon.org My dad was an avid left hand fountain pen user. He had the most amazing writing, smudge free too! He taught me how to write smudge free (mostly smudge free) at an early age. All about the angle for him… and now for me, though my writing hand is now sorely out of practice.

@scott@mastodon.clitheroe.ca I grew up on that, oatmill and cornmeal hot cereal. Not really a fan after 16 years on that everyday. But I do agree, it is as Canadian as Canadian one can get.

The migration from Cloudflare to Bunny.net has begun. I've had the account for 2 months, wasted my freebies due to lack of time to research. Better late than never.

For PHP dev work I have switched to Lerd (from Valet) on my demo laptop (along with macOS 27). I’d love to hear others thoughts if they are or were Valet users and have switched or tried Lerd.
My initial thoughts are: Interesting, seems mostly seamless, fairly lightweight, love the dashboard and ease of editing php and other settings.

@joshbuddy@sfba.social @jwildeboer@social.wildeboer.net It isn’t a section, just a sentence under Losing trust in each other “In the case of copyleft projects, LLMs additionally also lead to 'license laundering', where copyleft code is stripped of its reciprocity requirements by 'generating' it out of the training data.”
The legal community, if I understand it currently, is still out to lunch on this. IMO stating this as a fact seems a bit dangerous.

Any folks here with experience upgrading their Android tablet to Linux? I am in the market for a smallish tablet. I've always bought into the Apple ecosystem for devices, and am Debian/Ubuntu Linux all the way for servers. Given the nut-so pricing of Apples tablets, it is time to look at alternatives.

@LynnD@cosocial.ca Not quite, but thanks for the link. They list lots of granola, flours, cooking products and “oh my gosh we’re the most healthy thing you’ve ever seen” type whole grain cereal mixes. Farm Girl sort of comes close. Anyone else have cereal they love, made here in Canada?

I am curious how the new Laravel package-skeleton compares to Spatie’s? I’ve not dug into either at this time, it I have used the spatie

@jwildeboer@social.wildeboer.net As a user of more than one LLM (commercial and open, hosted and self hosted), I have no issues with this vote.
Disclaimer: I left Codeberg to support the Canadian WorkTree and now self-host my own Forgejo instance in my homelab.
I can’t help but wonder:
What is stopping an agentic AI from cloning every project on Codeberg and training on the data?
What is stopping someone from hiding the fact their project was made by, or assisted by, an LLM?

I’ve seen several positive stories in the news lately, getting mentioned here on mastodon. People who comment on these, you really don’t need to find some negative comparison or element of the story and make a post about that. You can just be happy something good is happening. Really, be happy and leave it that.

@ottaross@mastodon.social Oh my gosh that’s horrible. My new doctor (1.5 years ago) is amazing. Typical appoint is 15-20 minutes totally relaxed. I had a knee incident and called to get an appointment a few weeks ago, got that next day. knowing to be respectful I kept my convo to just the knee, 30 minutes later she ended up covering everything from my last appointment and checking all was good, knowing I have regular checkup in August. I think I won the lottery!

A few days ago I left one of my Thinkcentre M910Q boxes sitting on top of my rack. It’ll be fine there until I install it. Out of the way… today in a rush to get to my physio appointment my shirt caught the box and sent it flying onto my TrueNAS.
Remember folks, if you think at the time, “it’ll be safe, such and such can’t happen,” that is your future self whispering in your ear to NOT DO THAT!

Swearing - USA made … again !!!
Boy oh boy this buy in Canada thing is tough. Neal Brothers foods, wonderful stuff right? Guess what, they moved production of all their chips to the USA. It may be wrong to say but fuck them, i can in today’s political climate support that behaviour.

I used to love playing Machinarium. If you played and enjoyed it, three is a new (to me) game from the same developer called Creaks, and it is on sale today on Steam for 85% off - $3.89. Oh and Machinarium is also 80% off, for only $5.19.

@ottaross@mastodon.social Well, if I pick when fully ripe (black), they are quite sweet. But then I would have none left from the birds. These are still a bit tart at this stage, but hoping they will be good in a jelly. Since they had started to fall off already I figured worth nabbing now. This is just a normal black cherry tree, which can grow over 80 feet tall. In a few years I may not be able to reach these anymore. The photo doesn’t do the colour justice, they are quite a bit darker, not bright red.
