I'm a queer and nonbinary person with disability. (Here are my pronouns: they/them; here are my acronyms: #AuDHD, #BP2, #CPTSD). I am sweary and acerbic and occasionally need to remind myself to assume positive intent. I am moderately techie but prefer not to have #FOSS projects recommended to me out of the blue unless you've really taken the time to understand my requirements.

My column on the 'original sin' of the NDIS scheme design is now available on Inside Story.
Not gonna lie, the photo caption made me cackle.
Ok I'm almost done. Kidney infection with downstairs involvement (owie). Ultrasound done and I'm just waiting for doc review. Cannot believe how sick it made me.
Hey friends, if you work in health communication or building community around sexual and reproductive health with trans and gender diverse people, please consider attending this vital seminar on how TGD folks experience menopause.
The nurse in the stall next to mine is prepping an elderly Chinese man for discharge and I could hear he was cussing her OUT in a Chinese language.
Ok, heading for discharge. They want to keep me overnight but I'll wind up manic if I spend the whole night in ED.
Made it through the double anniversary day without crying. Woke up to a stonkingly gorgeous day today, cued up some mellow tunes, instant waterworks.
Filing this away as a very elegant example of how to reframe your negative findings as a positive contribution to knowledge.
This study set out to test whether cognitive restructuring — a PTSD treatment modality — *changed* patterns of activation in a particular network of neural centres measured using fancy MRI (fMRI) methods.
They found it did not! But a negative result never holds a good scientist down — instead they reported the study as if it were observational from the beginning, reporting that variations in the function of one particular centre in the network of interest predicted therapeutic outcomes.
It's a little bit bait and switch but as I said it still represents a contribution to the literature on the psycho/neuro correlates of treatment success.
Nope, just been admitted. Not sure why. The adventure continues. At least I'm not in ED waiting room.
Back to ED this morning but it's just for confirmatory ultrasound.
Six years since one of my closest friends died in hospital and I lost it crying on my way into the hospital. The absolute last place I want to be right now.
Love to start my Sunday with an unplanned medical adventure. *sigh*
Friends, my lovely friend Ann had a fall and bonked a facial nerve causing facial palsy. Does anyone know a facial nerve specialist?
Dripped and nil by mouth for exploratory surgery since you can't get a ultrasound on a Sunday at RPA.
Do I know any mid range Hifi nerds? I am looking for recs for a lounge room twin speaker set around AUD $400.
