I have some really exciting stuff coming to all you Makko () users!

Makko now:

Weighs 10 times less.
Is 5 times faster.
Automatically generates IDs for headers.
Can generate a Table-Of-Content
Can do video embeds
Can do checkmark lists
Has a better and more accurate implementation of GFM (Github Flavored Markdown)
Has a better CLI with colors and all!
Compiles much faster.

We've reworked a lot of how Makko works now, but everything should still be 100% backwards-compatible, so your sites should just work better, and build faster!

... Except... We're not fully sure, since we still have to iron out some of the weirder stuff that's going on, so stay on-channel because We'll be dropping experimental binaries for anyone interested, anytime soon!

Thanks everybody, have an amazing day!

Are there any nice self-contained package management solutions out there? I am looking for a package manager specifically built for small static tools that simply downloads stuff off a repo and puts it in the right places, so if anyone knows about something like it, please let me know!

My requirements are as following:

Must be (somewhat) simple to use and in function
Must be available for a plethora of systems
Must primarily be a precompiled binary packaging type of solution as opposed to being source-based
Must not be vibecoded
Making repos for it should be easy

I know this is kind of a shot in the dark, but I am curious, cause I am interested in packaging Makko for Linux systems, but I simply am not convinced of any of the existing solutions out there.

I've been experimenting with a concept as of late, something which I've decided to brand as Strand-Oriented Entity Design

In short, instead of keeping the actual state of the entities somewhere within the actual entity object or struct, you have a stackful coroutine that's attached to the entity and controls it like a puppet, with the stack BEING the state

The point is that it makes my life easier as I don't really have to make a new datatype per entity or internal property, just a new function that represents the entity's behaviour AND internal state, which also has the neat side effect of making your entities extremely easy to script for stuff like RPG games, for example...

walk_up(entity, 10)
walk_right(entity, 10)
say("Cowabunga!")
if ask("Is that right?", {"yes", "no"}) == "yes" then
   say("hell yes!")
   sound("badass.ogg")
end

Or, if you're doing enemy AI or a player entity of sorts...

while true do
   vx, vy = input.getAxis(1)
   entity.velocity_x = vx * 5
   entity.velocity_y = vy * 5
   yield()
end

Stuff like getting hit, such as in an action game, could also be done with some lightweight message system from which each entity can read from and write to

Yes, this is less efficient than ECS, but it's also much simpler and has a lot less mental baggage, plus you could mix them both and have a hybrid system with a script that controls the properties, and properties that morph over N amount of ticks

Replying to

@skyfaller@jawns.club @realtegan@wandering.shop I have a deep appreciation for all of the ones you mentioned, as well as other BSDs, but I just did not include them because I currently do not have the technology for efficiently targetting such platforms, at least not for now, which is why I also usually do not make anything for Android or iOS specifically

About Makko...

I made myself a new website! (About damn time!)

It's hosted on n.cyrneko.eu temporarily because I don't have my own domain yet, but go check it out! I even made a cool little post there.

If any one of you has any feedback, tell me! I'm happy to listen! Go check it out!

(Also, talk to me if you want me to add your button :neofox_comfy:)
