Our goal is to introduce learners to Django at an early stage in their academic journey. Today, Windhoek Technical High School learners participated in Django Day as part of @PyConNA@hachyderm.io ’s outreach initiative.

People often ask: Why involve high school learners in a professional conference environment?

The answer is clear, we are intentionally building the future of Namibia’s tech industry by investing in the next generation, providing opportunities that were not previously available.

Our conference is built around the next generation. Many of us started with similar opportunities, and today we are professionals in the industry. Now it’s our responsibility to create that same path for those coming after us.

Hi everyone, I’m looking for full-time opportunities in Namibia and remote opportunities in Europe, America, and Oceania (Australia). I’m also open to paid projects to contribute to.

I’m interested in developer communities, open source, DevRel, or tech community programs, and I also work with Python/Django building web platforms.

If you know of any openings or projects, please reach out. 🙏

The State of Local LLMs (2024/2025): What Actually Changed by @iqbalabd@mtd.pythonasia.org (Iqbal Abdullah)

Local LLMs finally hit their stride in 2025. If you struggled with local AI last year, new tools and models make setup a coffee-break task, not a weekend project. 👉 Check out the full article and explore what actually changed: https://kafkai.ai/articles/ai-technology/the-state-of-local-llms-what-actually-changed-2024-to-2025/

@CodenameTim@mastodon.social I’ve also noticed that we often count participants based on ticket sales, which is actually inaccurate. A ticket sold doesn’t always mean someone attended. What really matters for reporting, especially for sponsors and future planning, is actual attendance, not just tickets sold. That’s one of the core problems I’m trying to solve: bridging the gap between ticketing data and real, verified attendance through QR check-ins, session tracking, and post-event reporting.

💥 When your CTO joins the Competition?

Mesolitica’s bold pivot with “Future is Solo” exposes the harsh realities of the AI market, and the lessons are brutal but invaluable.

If you’re in tech, leadership, or AI, this is a must-read. It challenges assumptions about talent, competition, and strategy in a world where the AI race waits for no one. That's a good piece of article by @iqbalabd@mtd.pythonasia.org (Iqbal Abdullah)

Some community members attending the Ubuntu Summit 25.10 at Zoo park in Windhoek, Namibia. Can’t make it in person? Don’t worry, you can still experience the power of the event online with the community.

Open source brings us together! ✨

@benjaoming@social.data.coop That’s a great point, and that's why I think there’s room for improvement in this space. Many systems work well in theory, but the real test is how they perform on the ground during a live event. Those operational details can affect the flow of the entire event, especially at entry points. This kind of feedback helps me think more deeply about real-world use cases and how to improve the system beyond just “it scans a QR code.” That’s exactly the direction I want to move in, building something that supports the people running the event, not just the ticket transaction. Thank you, I really appreciate your feedback.

@benjaoming@social.data.coop Thank you for the advice! My target is event organisers not ticket or attendees, helping them manage the event registration process. As you mentioned, this excludes ticketing, which is complex and already covered by existing platforms, so I deliberately avoided it. Payments would come from organisers paying to use the platform for managing participants. For example, at PyCon Namibia, we used a separate platform for ticketing, and this platform handled check-in, sessions, attendance analytics, and reporting. We could quickly see who checked in, where participants were from, manage registration, and collect feedback and survey responses. Everything was automated, organisers didn’t have to do anything manually, and the platform generated reports for the event. Many events don’t sell tickets locally or people can't afford, but organisers still need accurate participant data for sponsors, future events, and controlling access. Payment gateway came into picture because i was adviced to open it to my international community, initially i want to use EFT, just for local.

I developed this platform and have been using it within my circle to help us when organising events. This year, I tested it at PyCon Namibia 2026, where we used it for participant check-in. It reduced our workload significantly, we simply scanned QR codes with our phones instead of manually checking spreadsheets.

Features include:

- QR + Kiosk check-in
- Real-time dashboard
- Auto-generated PDF badges
- CSV reports with full data export
- More features (hidden)

It’s built with Python/Django .

After losing my job, a friend encouraged me to take it seriously, add more features, and open it to the community to generate income while I look for my next opportunity.
It has already been helpful at their company during workshops and corporate events all these years.
I will need your support once it is launched, testing and use it.
Currently, I’m unsure how to handle the payment gateway, as most of them don’t work here. Any advice?

I am also targeting organisers outside Namibia, and i need a global payment processor. I want to make it right and share the link.

As time goes by and we mingle with people, we get to observe and learn. Today, I am proud to see my friend and high school mate enter the transport industry by launching Ronda, a ride-sharing app similar to Uber, Grab, Lyft, and Yango. proudly Namibian-owned.
We are winning 🇳🇦 Please support Alphons Koruhama, who will also be presenting at this year’s PyCon Namibia.
Why PyCon Namibia? Because some features of Ronda is built using Python/Django. PyCon is where developers learn how to build exactly these kinds of real-world, impactful technologies.
