A cyber-terrorist hacker group has DDoS'd Canonical, causing a 24h+ major outage in the midst of critical kernel patch roll-outs.
Their demands: Remove systemd and Wayland, bring back compiz.
Happy International Worker's Day to everyone that celebrates!! And to all the brave union people of the world that went on strikes, protests, blockades etc... today, in the past and in the future to defend our common interests and give us the privileges we're taking too much for granted - THANK YOU ✊ 😎
RE: @tomshardware@mastodon.online
The planet has overheated, its resources are depleted etc. Promoting any further data center addiction is irresponsible. And we're not gonna find Microsoft doing anything to reverse the course (rather the opposite).
But while we're spending all the time yelling at big tech, there's a component of complicity in playing along to this crap. Please do not hype it, please advocate the alternatives (i.e. what you did last year).
I hope people can see through the whole scheme with Mythos, whether their claims are true or not: It's to lodge AI into our stack as a mandatory tool.
If we don't use Mythos, someone else will use it on our software / dependencies.
(which can make enterprise customers show up with a lot of money 💸)
If it ends up like that, we should definitely have common/collective scanning platforms.. rather than individualized (= more data center pollution and money for AI bros).
Hurray, my Thunderbird UX bug was fixed 🥳

LOL, Bun is now fully AI generated (rewritten from Zig to Rust in one PR). Gonna be interesting to follow how badly that's gonna go. Already the issues are piling up. Move fast, break stuff... break a LOT of stuff...
The Coding Assistant documentation for the Linux Kernel says "All code must be compatible with GPL-2.0-only"
How does that make sense for LLMs? Validating that *somehow* AI Coding Assistants are compatible with GPL sounds like a dangerous direction. It adds reason that the way LLMs extracted content is legal.
Docs then go on to assign *attribution* to the AI coding tool, which may even be worse.
Anyone know of a qualified discussion? 🙏
That whole "Co-Authered-By: copilot" is really funny because it came right after the terms of service said it's only for entertainment purposes.
Looking at a build error from 5 hours ago and #GitHub CI says:
Error: Error response from daemon: Get "https://ghcr.io/v2/": net/http: request canceled (Client.Timeout exceeded while awaiting headers)
But no updates on https://www.githubstatus.com/ nor https://mrshu.github.io/github-statuses/
There must be a dark number to add to the current 86% uptime stat.
At first, I wanted to just be upset about something condescending that Armin Ronacher wrote in his blog post..
But okay, life is too short for that.. and reading on in the Fediverse comments, I see more folks object to the very ill-defined concept of "self-hosting" for software projects.
There are also many great and positive comments.
So new take: Remember this debate is easily polarized/reduced to something like for/against self-hosting, which is bad ⚠️
Vildt nok, at Store Bededag og 1. Maj er på samme dag i år... håber at mange af de normalt mere uengagerede arbejdere bruger dagen på ikke bare at spise hveder, men vågner op og går på gaden med deres fagforening.
Is there a way to build #consent/legal terms into the #ActivityPub protocol or is it already there?
Specifically, I want to make it clear that data isn't allowed to be used for personal profiling nor training AI. That it would be a violation.
@christopherkunz@chaos.social @n0kovo@infosec.exchange I think you can still use site:
Is this slop from 2023 or just completely bonkers clickbait?
Article is called »Exploring The Differences Between Rucola And Arugula«
A super-long text, somewhere in the text it says »So, are rucola and arugula the same thing? Yes, they are.«
