@codeberg Let me comment on https://blog.codeberg.org/protecting-our-floss-commons-from-llms.html I don't want to get to the issue itself, but I dislike sentences like “In Frankfurt, data centers already now consume 40% of the local electricity, and demand is rising.” That report (https://www.oeko.de/en/publications/environmental-impacts-of-artificial-intelligence/) is from May 2025, so it is really hard to attribute the rise of energy consumption to LLMs, which were not that prevalent then, especially outside of US/China. It seems dishonest to blame LLMs for our already high energy consumption.

Never, never, never believe any war will be smooth and easy, or that anyone who embarks on the strange voyage can measure the tides and hurricanes he will encounter. The statesman who yields to war fever must realise that once the signal is given, he is no longer the master of policy but the slave of unforeseeable and uncontrollable events.
