Did a silly thing. Everyone, meet Moowena. To preemptively answer your questions: 1) The place where @siaronj@toot.wales works was having a clear-out and needed to get rid of it. 2) We hired a big van and did a 6 hour round-trip to north Wales. 3) We have no idea 🤣 4) We have absolutely no idea 🤣 🤣 🤣

These doesn't exactly feel the most appropriate day to have done this (🥵) but I've *finally* finished my late winter blanket. It was delayed by 6 weeks while I did a "find the discontinued yarn" quest, then I had to frog & redo two sections when I realised I wasn't happy with the colour contrast - but now it's finally done. Considering I made it up as I was going, I'm really happy with it - now to put it away in a cupboard for 3+ months 🤣 #crochet #fiberarts

Bountiful stone harvest from one of the veg beds this year.

(I know how we ended up with so much stone in the area - a former owner was a stonemason and used it as a store/dumping ground before it grassed over - but I'm surprised how many large stones were still digging up after four years of growing in there...)

This stream in our field had dried up last summer by the time Rosey developed her water splashing obsession, and the greenery that grew then camouflaged its return. She discovered it this morning. Might need a second carpet cleaner.

That moment when you're casually chatting to a stranger about current affairs and both making similar noises about what should happen, but then you suddenly realise you're coming at it from opposite sides of the political spectrum 😬

Sunday, we went back to the beach at Niwbwrch/Newborough (we'd stayed nearby) for some high tide frolics - lots of excellent dogs! - then had a breathtaking drive through Snowdonia thanks to lingering mist & emerging sunshine. We walked at Capel Curig then stayed at one of our favourite campsites just south of Betws y Coed. Today, we had breakfast and a walk at Llyn Brenig before heading home - would like to go back there again soon for bike/boat/sauna fun. A gorgeous weekend for it!

This week has felt like a taste of summer.

I've pottered in shorts & flip flops most days this week, we've had pleasant evening walks in the evenings, ice lollies on the sun loungers after spurts of gardening, and we went swimming today (first outdoor swim of the year).

I know The Rain is due again this coming week but this has been nice.

Got a bit damp. (Twisted leg to show the normal dry colour of the trousers...) I walk in tech fabrics all winter but thought it was nice enough today to risk chinos, a normal cotton tshirt and a light cotton hoodie. I *absorbed*.

Immature vaguely connected fact: When we lived in Bradford, I used to have a workout cycling route that went passed the pub she based herself in. The pub was on Dick Lane, and I planned to route to also go down the nearby Tong Lane and Butt Lane, so the route was called Tong Dick and Butt Lanes.

Our ward elected three Reform candidates. My first thought was "great, everyone around me is a selfish bigot" but then I looked at the actual voting numbers.

The Labour + Green vote FAR exceeded the Reform vote, even Reform + Conservative. The two Labour incumbents were only narrowly beaten (something like 30 votes, with the winner getting 2400 votes).

We lost, but they're not the majority. Considerably more people didn't want them than did.

I've got to hold on to that thought.

For our annual Scotland spring roadtrip, I'd been thinking about a return to the Western Isles, with a focus on the southern end, but the ferry shenanigans of late has put me off. Sigh.

Now trying to decide where to go instead. Kintyre and Islay perhaps (new ferry permitting)? Or the west coast above Ullapool? Decisions, decisions.

@felicitymartin@mastodon.scot - you don't happen to have a new book coming out soon that would plan our whole trip for me, do you?? 😀 That was so convenient last year!

@keepsake@mastodon.social the petrichor was nice when it was just spitting, before the deluge. (I would have made it home a couple of minutes earlier if I hadn't stopped to talk to some new baby cows. I'm not sure it would have made much difference to my wetness level anyway, but even if it had, it would still have been worth it.)

I don't think it was Percy Fawcett - I think, despite getting lost, he was more competent than my guy. And I don't think it was Truman Everts - he certainly had his poor-judgement moments but I think I would have remembered his story more clearly. I possibly heard about this chap on a podcast but I can't see anything from around that time in the feeds of the podcasts I listen to regularly. There's also a non-zero possibility I dreamt it but I really do think it's real!

@ZachWeinersmith some conservation/land-based charities in the UK run Green Gym programmes to do this (for example, https://www.tcv.org.uk/greengym/ ). There's also local tree/hedge planting groups in many rural areas too. Good for nature, good for people's physical fitness and a good social activity too.

@coreyspowell my one disappointment about the film was how much of the pre-launch science from the book was missed out. I appreciate there was a limit on what they could include but in the book, there really was a sense of all the world pulling together to make it happen, scientists from around the globe doing their small part within their specialised field. A shame that had to be dropped.

@Troggie I've had 5 insertions/4 removals over the last 23 years, with either no pain relief or something topical applied (no injections). I had to really fight for my first because I'd never been pregnant (as far as I know)/no kids. At worst, I've felt minor discomfort. At best, I thought the doctor was rudely walking away mid-procedure because she'd removed one and inserted the next without me noticing. I've had, at most, a day of cramping afterwards. I realise I'm very, very lucky.

@Indigo our first springer (a rescue older lady) was like that - hated swimming but would wallow in puddles, no matter how muddy, like a pig. Our second lady (a slightly younger rescue) rolled in anything & everything (I think she realised rolling in gross things meant encouragement to stay swimming in the river for longer). My walk with Rosey this afternoon was watching her run from puddle to puddle... Spaniels are great, but yes, you're lucky that B didn't inherit that!

@earthlightning@sfba.social @beemoh@mastodonapp.uk @futurebird@sauropods.win their needs aren't quite as diverse/specific as the SV townspeople but Oxygen Not Included has more of a social element than Factorio. Your colony's little workers (aka dupes) have preferred jobs and they perform better if they have a high morale (from good food, entertainment, decoration etc). Some do have specific needs too (eg they need to sleep with a light).

@juliette@mastodon.green we cycled on hire bikes as part of our holiday in Sweden last year. I used to be a touring cyclist, capable of 150km days, but I hadn't cycled regularly for a while before the holiday. I was *struggling*, esp on hills, and super embarrassed at how unfit I'd become. About 30km into a 40km ride, I finally did the full bike check I should have done at the start. Turned out my front brake pad needed adjustment: I'd been riding with it half on the whole time... I flew after that 🤣
