Card-driven rondel works amazingly well giving difficult choices each time. Faiyum. Similar to Concordia but it focuses on hand management as where you discard your cards after playing them may mean you don’t get to see that card again for a long time. @iain@ohai.social @jcl@tabletop.social @grayson@thepage.house As someone who’s somewhat visually challenged (and in addition low light exacerbates my colourblindness) I have to say the worst bit of pub gaming is the lighting. Tables? That’s a mixed bag. Depends on the pub but honestly I’ve played on plenty of people’s own suboptimal tables too. But yeah a controlled environment is more conducive to heavier gaming.

One of the local game nights is in a pub. It’s on a Monday so the pub is quiet. Suboptimal though. But I think that applies to all games of all weights. But that is balanced out by access to beer on tap!

What do y’all do with board games you can’t seem to sell? I’ve got a handful I want to shift but they’re not popular or desirable (probably weren’t when ‘new’) I could shift them at an absolute bargain basement price. But that would probably cost me money (as in time, and packing resources) and also I can’t be bothered with that for no gain… #BoardGames #BrettSpiele #j2s

@frankie_flowers@franken.social @iain@ohai.social My brain still lives in the era where you could get a big box euro (like Agricola) for £30 (say €35) and so anything over that triggers my ‘this is expensive’ reflex. GMT games are normally way over £50. Robin Hood was £70 last time I looked. It’s now available for 50-60 but that’s a lot for the contents of the game.

I needed to sign in to a suppliers account to confirm it was me (trying to get some replacement equipment) and they kept saying they’d email a login that never came. Zero option to just click I HAVE A BLOODY PASSWORD. Email as a second factor for logins needs to get in the bloody sea.

But when I did (or do) I have to pick a colour that contrasts. None of that helps with resources that love to be shades of brown, green, or orange cubes. Indistinguishable in anything but perfect lighting.

@nolando@mastodon.online I’m not out of space yet (and in theory I could move them to the loft) but it’s more ‘the cognitive weight of having all these games’ — hard to put into words. More a feeling. Not quite anxiety but a discomfort. I’m never going to get a fraction of what I paid for them though. That’s the risk with more obscure titles (that don’t become in demand out of print cult classics)

The new iPhone is going to be a lot more expensive thanks to AI slop data-centres so this is Apple laying the groundwork for ways for folks to keep “buying” their devices.
