@mcc@mastodon.social I am convinced that DB Cooper’s name is Data Base Cooper. It’s very clear to any student of history that they invented the database and named it after themselves

There are two thoughts in my head.
Hypothesis: as a solo/indie #gamedev creating a video game for an obsolete platform might be less risky than making a game for modern platforms.
Built in audience of completionist collectors that can form a sales floor that can’t exist on steam, built in community of people that you don’t need to assemble from scratch for word of mouth, platform limitations well understood by user base naturally limiting the scope of the game to be accomplishable by a small team, the perceived value of carts means you can charge a good price for them, and there are entire modern genres untouched. And then you can still sell a rom in an emulator for modern platforms to retain the modern sales ceiling in the million to one odds that it resonates with a larger audience.
Feeling: I’m super excited about the #neogeo AES+ and the buzz around it. So excited. Big game tapes are so cool. I can actually afford them!

@ifixcoinops@retro.social I have been meaning to put something on there for decades and it’s honestly getting embarrassing
just whipped up a quick #shortcut for #ios to open a tweet you need to read for some reason because people still use it for some reason on xcancel.com and I am suddenly 40% more sane

Regulation idea: licensed venues must devote twice as much space to non-gambling indoor entertainment installations (pool tables, pinball, arcade games, darts, etc) as they have to gambling machines

@stroughtonsmith@mastodon.social i thought i’d be way into playdate dev but 1-bit is insanely challenging from a ui and art perspective and not in a fun way like i was expecting

@nathansnelgrove@mastodon.social @stroughtonsmith@mastodon.social i dunno. It always seemed like he knew what the issues were, had a plan, made the smart tough plays when he could. He was airdropped into the Xbox One fiasco, and under Microsoft’s leadership which seems to be in its nadir w/r/t product in general.
That said. It seems like the classy/savvy thing to do would be to resign when they had their massive layoffs, either in protest or by way of taking responsibility. Seems like a bit of a waste doing it now

@tuomas_h@mastodon.social this looks way better. I’d love to see the toolbars also demoted in the z hierarchy

@hugo great post. when you get down to it, it's never about money. money is only real when you're trying to survive and is totally abstract and ubiquitous when you're truly powerful. it's a justification, a cloak, and a symbol, but never the root cause

@dan although i can see being upset if you are a woman, since your share of the person-celebration-days is a mere 1.94, and that includes themself!
aardvark population estimates are very loose but the lowest estimates put any aardvark's share at a staggering 24,430 person-celebration days, which is more than twice their maximum lifespan, which is definitely excessive.
perhaps the best way to think of it is one small day for a woman, but 22 million years for womankind

@david_chisnall is mythos the best security researcher or even the best security research tool? Probably not, probably not even close, your analysis here is spot on.
But, what I’m a bit more concerned about is the answer to: can baddies use mythos to turn money into whatever information or destruction they crave, at scale? At a scale where there are no targets too insignificant?
Thought experiment: there is a button, if you choose to press it, someone’s day goodness will be set to how good you feel pressing the button (it is an awesome button, the best button you’ve ever pressed) MINUS how good you feel about the day you’ve given someone else
The button will execute after you lift off the button giving you as much time as you need to go around the feedback loop but holding the button feels worse the longer you hold it
Do you press the button and if so, when do you release?
I wonder if there’s a critical mass of scared billionaires that would result in a private global UBI charitable foundation? The amount of political power that foundation would wield would be terrifying, truly unprecedented, and totally non-democratic.
Bejeweled 3 Poker tho
