@theleftistlawyer@mastodon.social Isn't that also the same argument as in the 90s (or other decades) with gay kids? "Oh, but gay kids have such awful lives, they're going to be on the streets" is something I remember hearing about how parents didn't want their kids to be queer.
Yeah, who put them out on the streets to begin with? Same with trans kids. Why do their lives have to be so awful?
Any of y'all remember computing classes where they taught Garbage In, Garbage Out?
I'm... really wishing for that to make a comeback. Computing classes too, because honestly... a lot of folk (esp now) might be considered digital natives, but there's a lot of taking everything at face value. Or dismissing everything.
Maybe I'm talking more media literacy classes than computing per se, though.
Digital #accessibility expert — displaced, undaunted — seeks full-time work helping your organization stop accidentally excluding people. Fluent in WCAG, keyboard nav, screen readers, and the particular guilt of well-meaning product teams. Sideline in making tabletop game #ttrpg PDFs actually usable - for example, Draw Steel core books and adventures. Lawful good alignment, verified. Not sure if champion or artificer yet though.

@HG @dequesystems For reference for Deque: the free training is for folk with disabilities, self-attested. So if they're newly coming to terms with impairments and have to self-ID, they may have some internal things they're dealing with (pride, ableism, misunderstanding...) that might keep them from the quick reference sheets etc.

Some good (heartening) news, at least.
So the other day as a belated name day gift (bought way in advance), my spouse and I saw Electric Callboy.
The venue was more considerate than expected (I was using a cane), and a kid got separated from his parents; they STOPPED, turned on the lights, explained the situation all in the accented English and said 'ten years old, maybe a bit early for the pit' and sang a few bars of Celine Dion ("neeaaaar, faaaar, wherever you are...")
And then back to singing about elevator operators.
