All this to say that when I leave here on Wednesday, I will breathe a sigh of relief that is very different from the tears I shed when I left in May of 2025 with my belongings as I separated from my husband of nearly 18 years. Instead of having an anchor in Palm Springs (of a partner, of a property), I will be free to redefine my relationship with this very gay town and build new meaning for myself when I come back to visit. On my own terms. Unburdened by the past.
At least this is my hope.

HELL YES. My upgrade to Delta One (business class) cleared at check-in, ya boy is laying FLAT on his way to Barcelona tomorrow. I was really sweatin' it there, last I checked there were only two seats available in that cabin.

I'm very impressed that I managed to check all of these off in the last 2 days AND still have my evening free tonight. I'm usually a procrastinator. I need to pack (including some odd possessions I'm hauling back with me) but that is a fairly straightforward thing to do.
Then tomorrow I must race the clock at 6:30am to nab a weekend ferry reservation to Orcas Island 🙃, load things up, and hit the road back to Ontario, aiming to get settled at a cafe near the airport before my workday starts.

I'm starting to feel an immense sense of emotional closure while still struggling with the financial aspects that have me really frustrated: taking a bigger hit of a loss than I expected, some urgent repair work that had to be done, the length of time on market, etc.
Also reflecting on the social relationships I'd built here, and realizing I only really have two actual friends in PS. The rest have drifted off to do their own thing or the friendship ended when *I* stopped contributing.

The first half of this trip was supposed to be with my friend Charles from PS for his birthday but he had to cancel last minute due to a work emergency. So I kept the dates for myself. Once I arrived:
“Huh, wonder what I’m *actually* going to do in PV for the next 5 days by myself” turned into “oh, hello OTHER Palm Springs friend who just arrived for his own birthday weekend!”
Dinner was had, plans at Studs later were made, now for a shower and brief reprieve before going out.
Omg how I miss thunder. Is it shoulder season in PV? Yes. Will it rain a lot for the week that I am here? Also yes. Will I tire of the thunder rolling in? NEVER.

I don’t supervise anyone but I do run the project so I try to take my responsibility as Chief Morale Officer to give credit where credit is due

@robdaemon@hachyderm.io I am! It took me a while to get here, but the truth is I cannot afford to maintain 2 houses (even if one is a more profitable airbnb) on my solo income in a climate like this. I love PS, I will visit a few times a year (hell, I'll be back in August and November this year alone) but I do not need a pied-à-terre here to enjoy it and my appetite for travel is broader than this desert.
AND this is enabling a smarter investment move which should put my retirement portfolio in good shape.
I’ve been developing a work pet peeve: encountering more and more people in discipline leadership (e.g. creative director, exec producer, strat director) who are TERRIBLE about managing their cals. They let invites pile up until the night before or morning of and only then RSVP, they are increasingly difficult to get responses from in DMs or mentions, and they just feel overworked and aloof. This is not helpful. We’ve been trying to revamp meeting cadences but it’s a two way street…
Clearly my poor sleep last night is affecting my level of patience with... everything today.

Interesting! I was not expecting zero love for the ZZ and top love for the Schefflera! I have wanted a variegated schefflera for a very long time and I think I have just the place for one, so now I'm going to keep my eye out at a local nursery to see what I can find.
