Very kind review of my new album in The Quietus.
It's nice when someone has properly taken time to listen to something you've made. Interesting to me what bits he focused on and the comparisons he made to other artists.

Out for a run round Belgrade. Lovely weather. Seemed rude not to. Soundcheck was 11am and not on stage till midnight, so plenty of time to spend.
I dropped my hotel keycard taking my phone out of my pocket to take a photo of this delightful sentry box. Looped back 25mins later and it was still there, phew.

Amazing work from Bart Hopkin as always - a collection of unusual zithers:

[New album] Quern. Mechanical Techno studio recordings.
Quern is a collection of tracks recorded with the Mechanical Techno setup during my PhD research. Twelve tracks of wonky techno, machine funk, suboptimal beats and rough cut rehearsal edits. It's out on cassette and download via Brooklyn based label Jollies. The cover is a record sleeve cutup collage. More info in the press release below. Stream/buy from bandcamp here: …

Rehearsing today with Sascha for a live video soundtrack we're doing in September.
It went pretty well, I think, and we worked out all the sections we will use.
It's a very different way of working for me, and for us as a duo. Typically we would improvise live, perhaps to a loose structure. In recording sessions we have previously just sort of jammed through pieces - improvising around a sound palate or set of textures.
We're yet to work out how the soundtrack will follow the video. There will be multiple voice artists too.
I'm finally getting round to putting together a "how to get started on Mastodon" blog post for all the people I've been recommending the platform to.
I could do with links to good server directories, if anyone knows of any they would recommend.
When I was at school they taught us how to make circuit boards using Letraset, ultraviolet light and an acid bath. (It was completely weird and mysterious to me at the time, I had no concept of why anyone would want to do it). Making a single circuit board or a couple of copies.
I'm assuming nowerdays there's a way to do this more easily - either with some element of digital fabrication at home or sending off to a fab lab of some sort. I wouldn't know what to even search for - is this a thing?

Mammoth Beat Organ rehearsal session from a couple of years ago.
Includes a bit with four swannee whistles on a turntable, playing cards in the spokes, and a nice upbeat mechanical-acoustic technoise ending.

One of the recent videos has had loads of traffic from Discord, but I've no way of knowing which server it's come from.
