Was telling some people about #Timespinner being on sale on #GOG and ended up looking up the developer #LunarRayGames and discovered that he has a Mastodon account!

thinking of what goes through Alucard's mind in the #Castlevania series
1476: "oh, dad's house showed up. .........maybe i should do something about it."
"okay, this family seems to have gotten the idea of how to deal with it. i really don't want to have to deal with it again."
1576: "oh, dad's house showed up again. seems like someone's taking care of it."
1591: "oh, dad's house showed up again. seems like someone's taking care of it."
1691: "oh, dad's house showed up again. seems like someone's taking care of it."
1748: "oh, dad's house showed up again. seems like some idiot woke him up. but i guess his buddy his taking care of it.."
1792: "oh, dad's house showed up again. seems like someone's taking care of it."
1797: "oh, dad's house showed up again. ......... hey, where's that guy who took care of it last time?" *sighs and gets out of bed*
found out about #Fluxer, another #OpenSource #Discord clone. caveat: i have not used it yet. but i know people may not be satisfied with #Matrix and/or #Stoat so this is another idea to explore
some info:
https://blog.fluxer.app/how-i-built-fluxer-a-discord-like-chat-app/
https://github.com/fluxerapp/fluxer
you can get the app at fluxer.app
Haven't started using it yet, but what I know so far based on the blogpost:
* it's #FOSS
* the lead developer wants to implement #federation at some point (though Stoat's devs may also be considering that; I dunno)
* the lead developer wants to implement public forum channels (addressing one big problem of organizations/devteams only using Discord as their public-facing thing)
I gotta say, as a longtime #Castlevania fan I'm not finding myself enjoying the various Netflix series very much
they're...okay? but so different and so far removed from what Castlevania *is*, that they basically feel like vampire-themed fanfics that merely reuse characters from the Castlevania series
you get trapped in a world where you have to restore the ecosystem in order to go back to your home world

hot take(?): i am not a fan of #Pokémon 's Z-moves, Dynamax/Gigantamax, Terastallization, mega evolutions, etc.
something feels annoyingly gimmicky about them and they don't really feel like they fit within (what i had imagined of) the world of pokémon
(I think) I understand why they did this, from an extratextual perspective, because it's really not sustainable to let the series feature-creep but this allows them to have specific mechanics for each generation that don't recur elsewhere
but still
want some nice music to accompany your day? don't want to listen to AI slop?
enjoy music from the #LegendOfHeroes series (specifically the #Trails subseries)

@markigra@sciences.social The bigotry was never even about the money. It was always about being horrible douches for kicks.
so far this year, in four and a half months, i have watched seven and two thirds cours of anime (plus miscellany)
TIL: CD jewel cases are made of polystyrene plastic. that's resin code #6 in the recycling symbol. unfortunately, this means they are generally not recycled.
Polystyrene is usually seen as either a hard, brittle plastic (e.g. CD jewel cases and many plastic cups and dishes and cutlery), or foam, commonly called "styrofoam" (which is actually a trademark name, but one that's basically genericized at this point).

@alexanderniki@techhub.social because Discord is enshittifying (and people aren't satisfied with the current alternatives)
That said I don't think there really are that many of them. The only FOSS alternatives I know of that are actually close to what Discord offers are Matrix, Stoat (Revolt), and now Fluxer.
And then there's non-FOSS alternatives like Slack and root, but they have basically the same issue as Discord.
People sometimes talk about IRC, Mumble, XMPP, and TeamSpeak and Steam chat (non-FOSS), but I don't see them covering the same niche as Discord. And I say this despite being an IRC lover.
