Started this sciences.social. Sociology PhD at the University of Washington, studying altruism and morality. Former software guy.
I set up sciences.social as a place where social scientists can engaging and productive conversations online.
It’ll be supported as long as folks find it useful. Let me know if you have ideas how this space should be run.
1. The president is immune from prosecution for crimes.
2. The president may pardon thousands of co-conspirators
3. The president may pay his co-conspirators with billions in taxpayer dollars.
1 & 2 already required Court reform and constitutional amendment. #3 shows why those things are urgent. https://federate.social/@mattblaze/116602970458563283
This is so incredibly bleak. A must read about the great expertise extraction from highly competent precarious professionals. A giant sucking sound as brains get extracted by malevolent billionaires (Gift link) https://www.theverge.com/cs/features/877388/white-collar-workers-training-ai-mercor?view_token=eyJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiJ9.eyJpZCI6ImJ0T01rdG1DaFUiLCJwIjoiL2NzL2ZlYXR1cmVzLzg3NzM4OC93aGl0ZS1jb2xsYXItd29ya2Vycy10cmFpbmluZy1haS1tZXJjb3IiLCJleHAiOjE3NzM2MzIxNTUsImlhdCI6MTc3MzIwMDE1NX0.vo709ev4WinvSTJgiZRbPRLstvVze8WKhCkA5jHfT5g&utm_medium=gift-link
Really good piece by Shay O'Brien in ASR on persistence of kin networks. If I were teaching networks, Econ soc or theory (I'm not) it'd be on my syllabus. What pieces from the last 5-10 years would you put on a general grad soc curriculum? #sociology #sociology
37 (yikes) years ago I joined Microsoft with the goal of putting APIs into apps so you could control them without doing SendKeys. Now there are AI’s literally scrolling browser windows to achieve tasks. Progress!
