I opened the door to a delivery guy, soaked through to the skin, looking as miserable as it gets. The rain was running down his face in rivulets.
I looked up at the sky. Blue, no clouds. "Dude," he wailed, what the fuck?"
"Let me guess," I said, taking a box from him (it was bone dry), "last time you came you dumped a package in the shrubbery and ran for it? Should have read the sign."
"I don't see no dog."
"Should. Have. Read. The. Sign."
I watched him tramp miserably back up the path, a tiny cloud dumping an unfeasable amount of water on him and just him until he stepped out of my front gate, at which point it evaporated.
He peered at the sign. "Beware Of The God?"

petty complaint about trump and the coverage of him:
those aren't windmills. windmills grind flour; the clue is in the name — "mill".
just because the deranged idiot doesn't know what a wind turbine is, doesn't mean journalists have to copy him.

little bit of rouge and eyeliner, but not so much that it stands out.
The understanding I have is that original intentions mean nothing in the case of systems. What matters is what it does.
agreed. what i said.
Otherwise they would have changed, removed or replaced that system.
that's a stretch. they might not understand what the system is doing (disagreeing about the effects of a system is normal); they might not actually have power to fix it, for example because the ultimate effects of a system are soft.
there's a story about how the lego world mmo was (eventually, reluctantly) shut down because they couldn't stop folks building dicks. you might say the purpose of the system was to build dicks; that's what it DID. but the designers couldn't stop it.
just two reasons why they might not be able to change a system.
**The impossible promise: are we witnessing the return of fascism?**
the slow horse runs in circles just before the finish line here — we're carefully defining fascism as something Hitler's Germany had but we do not, quite.
still, a lot of truth is spoken in passing.
@stefan@stefanbohacek.online i would like this to be true — i suspect it is true — but:
40% of non-managers say AI saves them no time at all at work
that means 60%, the majority, don't say that.
unless 20% of them were "don't know", the majority think it does save them time…

subtoot: oh gods, i used to think these people were so smart, i learned so much good coding practice from listening to them, but the new podcast is all AI this and AI that; stuff that they wouldn't have to do if they had good test coverage, even, but for some reason that's not a thing any more…
