Open post feeblu @feeblu@donotsta.re · 6mo ago Replying to @anya@is.acute.cat @alyeska As for not being able to enter certain countries: i don't reliably pass as either binary gender now so either of those would give me quite a bit of hassle in those countries. For example, i don't think i would be particularly safe trying to enter the US with any gender marker. i haven't tried going to/through any arabic countries or Singapore; i heard (from an Australian) they tend to be very annoying about gender markers, even binary ones, but let (rich white) foreigners through after the hassle. And to be honest, being able to go "i can't come because they will 100% imprison me" tends to discourage your colleagues from scheduling meetings in places i didn't want to go anyway due to hatecrimes. i travel a lot and booking things (plane, Eurostar, hostels with one-gender dormitories) is consistently broken even within Europe. i tend to need to call customer service half of the time. (Often they say: flip a coin to pick a random gender and call us to have it corrected.) Being handed an official goverment paper form and getting to draw in my own checkbox for gender feels like a victory though. For this, you do need to be a bit perverted about bureaucracy and the ability to use a phone call to make it someone else's problem. In all, the X makes my life a bit harder, but it's a manageable challenge. Having the right name makes my life a lot easier. And the happiness from a correct passport matters too. @anya @alyeska Raven van Dorst was forced to use their old papers when applying for a US visa for the show they made there.

Open post feeblu @feeblu@donotsta.re · 3mo ago Replying to @WooShell@chaosfurs.social I need help identifying a vintage connector.. does anyone have an idea what this 12-pin plug is called, or can provide me with a link to the appropriate counterpart (or even have one at hand to sell me)? This is on a Siemens paper tape reader, ca. 1960, originally meant to be connected to a Gretag Tape Sender. Boosts appreciated :-) @WooShell@chaosfurs.social https://m.pcbterminal-block.com/sale-42936258-siemens-ip67-waterproof-male-female-12-pin-m23-circular-connector-etype-ptype.html The search term I used was: Siemens/Tuchel circular connector 1960 12 pin. I think you would have more luck trying to identify the exact model of tape reader and finding some sort of manual. m.pcbterminal-block.com
Open post feeblu @feeblu@donotsta.re · 3mo ago Replying to @WooShell@chaosfurs.social @feeblu@donotsta.re I have tried finding documentation on the tape reader, but there seems to be none. Siemens tape readers are well documented in the Tsend series, but no others.. and Gretag only comes up with their rather popular crypto telex machine, to which this device here does not belong. I have also looked through tons of books about the Siemens T10/T100/T200 telex series in the hopes that one of them would allow for an external tape reader, but this also lead nowhere. @WooShell@chaosfurs.social may I ask what you need the connector for?
Open post feeblu @feeblu@donotsta.re · 3mo ago Replying to @WooShell@chaosfurs.social @feeblu@donotsta.re well, for connecting this paper tape reader to an ongoing project (I'm trying to boot an ESP32 from tape). I had hoped this to be a lot easier than it turned out.. I guess the easier way will be to replace the connector with a known type. @WooShell@chaosfurs.social it depends to what extent you want to destroy the thing.... I'm surprised the reader didn't come with any documents.
Open post feeblu @feeblu@donotsta.re · 3mo ago Replying to @WooShell@chaosfurs.social @feeblu@donotsta.re I got that reader from a garage sale for a few coins.. no documents, no idea where it's from or whether it was even working, but I just can't not buy such a thing ;-) Replacing the connector isn't that hard, there's quite a lot of space inside. I would just have preferred to leave it original.. but if that prevents me from using it, i'll at least go the least invasive route. @WooShell@chaosfurs.social ok! Good luck with the project. I wish they had such garage sales where I live. One more thing, it could be in these archives, maybe (probably not): https://pdf.datasheetarchive.com/siemens/index.html pdf.datasheetarchive.com
