@ChrisMayLA6@mastodon.me.uk Many of the difficulties the #nhs is encountering relate to 'stranded' patients who cannot be discharged because of problems with their care. Places funded by local authorities are limited because private providers find 'self-payers' more profitable. So local authorities cannot help much until or unless the two tier market in social care ends . It was due to end under the coalition - which legislated to allow 'self-payers' to request that the local authority act on their behalf.

In the 1920s there was briefly a #khwarizmian people's republic which issued its own currency before being incorporated into the #sovietunion . This is based on direct personal observation made on a visit fifteen years ago - in 2011.

The projection has the #greens gaining control of no fewer than nine boroughs currently controlled by #labour . These are #brent , #greenwich , #hackney , #hammersmithandfulham , #hounslow , #lambeth , #lewisham , #walthamforest and #wandsworth . #labour retains control of two - #newham and #redbridge . Remaining boroughs are projected to be under no overall control. This would represent the weakest position for #labour in #london since the 1968 to 1971 period.

@BlueWaver22 This has to be true. It would be comparable to the largely successful attempt to wipe out the #ashkenazi / #yiddish civilisation of #easterneurope in the 1940s.

Although the projection is in the public domain and thus cannot and should be ignored I would advise a degree of caution in interpreting it. The use of #ai appears to be novel - which raises questions of reliability. Some parts of it are consistent with other evidence - patterns of ethnic and religious voting preferences reported in the most recent #britishelectionstudy published late last year would support the projection for #barnet .

@ChrisMayLA6 In my view the pass was sold with the ousting of #suegray from #downingstreet early in the #starmer government. Flawed as she may have been she did at least have a basic understanding of propriety and ethics!

@randahl@mastodon.social This bears a certain resemblance to the thesis put forward more than half a century ago by Peter Brown in 'The World Of Late Antiquity' that #Rome declined after 375 CE because - in the West at least - there was institutional capture by the super rich and a collapse in government revenues. Later studies have suggested a similar process in the East two centuries later.

I should add that the current weather forecast for #manchester tomorrow is for rain.. How far this will affect voter turnout on the day remains to be seen.
