#Music lover, #rambler, #gig and #festival goer, #scifi #geek #gamer and #beer drinker from #Derby #UK.
Mainly posting random thoughts about #nerd stuff, #anime, #TV, #Movies or whatever happens to pop into my head.
A combined #FungiFriday / #Mosstodon for you - Hoof fungus on a mossy tree trunk.
Taken at the aptly named Moss's Banks near Oakamoor, Staffordshire.
Reform getting power is like a dog chasing a car. They don't know what to do when they actually catch the car except stand there barking at it.
Just got home after a lovely 8 mile walk around Alton in Staffordshire (near Alton Towers, you could actually hear screaming from the rollercoasters!)
This is a wire sculpture of a fairy in a tree, somewhere between Oakamoor and Cotton.
Happy perfect date day to all who celebrate!
Bought a couple of super cheap records on sale at Rarewaves for a tenner and got sent this instead, which from the receipt in the packaging I believe was supposed to go to a guy in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Sorry buddy, if you got what I ordered, I probably got the better end of the deal!
The only time I remotely miss Twitter is on International Women's Day when Richard Herring used to raise money for charity by replying to all the idiotic men asking when International Men's Day is (it's 19th November).
Anyway, happy International Women's Day to all who celebrate, which should be everyone.
Just re-read a 1957 Isaac Asimov short story called Profession.
In this story people don't learn anything, they have a technology where they are just given the knowledge.
The technology doesn't work on the main character, who has to learn "the old fashioned way", by reading books.
Eventually he comes to realise that it is people like him, who have to learn "shred by shred", who have the capacity for original thought and come up with innovation.
Seems extremely prescient.
I watched War Machine on Netflix.
What's the military equivalent of copaganda?
I like a big dumb action movie, but I just couldn't enjoy it with what's happening in the real world right now.
Koupen-chan is about the cutest damn thing I've ever seen. Super short slices of happiness.
Look up "kawaii" in the Japanese dictionary and there should be a picture of Koupen-chan.
"Remember: Spring back, fall forward"
A friend of mine on Facebook used to say that every time the clocks changed and see how many fish he reeled in.
It's honestly one of the only things I miss about Facebook.
My favourite Mastodon app, no longer being updated, can't quote toot and doesn't display quote toots.
I'm fine with that.
Tales of my weird brain 226:
Weird songs I sing in my head.
A couple of examples. When I read something about a nepo baby, my brain sings "I'm a nepo baby, so why don't you kill me". To the tune of Beck's Loser.
Another one, an extremely niche UK one. The main character in Death in Paradise has an iconic green bucket hat that got stolen and then he got back. Now every time it appears on screen my brain sings "Return of the hat" to the tune of Mark Morrison's Return of the Mack.
See. Weird 😂
I forgot what an absolute cracker this album is, not a bad song on it 🤘🏻
If people say Brits are obsessed with the weather, they're correct. It was 20C last week, today it's 7C and alternating between hail/sleet, gale force winds and bright sunshine.
Assault rifles: Not banned in America.
Tonka beans: Banned in America.
How are you supposed to make sense of a country like that? 🤷🏻♂️
Anyway, have a great weekend lovely people of Mastodon. Chin chin! 🍻
Happy Mother's Day!*
Sorry if that panicked you in the rest of the world, it's payback for the brief panic I feel in May!
Anyway, happy Mother's Day to the mums, dads who are also mums and everyone else. If you've lost your mum I feel for you today, much love ❤️
*In the UK
Hot food take, but the breakfast burrito is the greatest culinary invention humankind has ever made.
* I may have just eaten a breakfast burrito.
Uh, weather is rancid out there. Raining absolute cats and dogs with 40mph gusts of wind. Yuck.
I wish techbros would stop naming their slop after words they've stolen from science fiction and fantasy*
Here are a few names they can have for free:
Spunkbucket
Bilgepump
Dewflaps
Stoolsample
Gloryhole
*could have just ended this sentence after stop.
I fancied stir fry for tea and was halfway through making it when I realised I didn't have any noodles. So I used spaghetti instead, same thing right!?
Probably just insulted a billion people 😂
When I was younger I was short of cash, when I wanted to upgrade something I had to sell something.
For example, when I bought my first PC I had to sell my Amiga A500 to help pay for it.
Of course now I wish I still had all those things. I call it Retro Regret.
I wish I had it all back, but if I could pick only two things, I'd probably pick my Dreamcast and my super cool Gameboy Advance SP NES edition.
What system did you used to have that you wish you still had!?
Thinking about all the sweet Monet content I'll miss because of filters.
Thanks techbros!
Just about to watch the new episode of For All Mankind. I loved the early seasons but I've got to admit that it's starting to lose me, the further it gets away from reality.
Now they have to plausibly convince me that a Mars colony could possibly win against Earth. Hmm, we'll see about that.
When a friend breaks up with someone, don't try and console them by saying "well I never really liked them anyway".
Because that makes it very awkward when they get back together.
Ask me how I know!
"just" $2,259
PC gaming needs a reckoning, it's becoming unaffordable for the majority of people.
Guess I'll just stumble on with my getting on for 10 year old PC 🤷🏻♂️
