@nixCraft@mastodon.social I started off in the world of Gentoo because I wanted to run a 64 bit OS on my operating system when that wasn't an option using windows. Since then, I've moved off of Gentoo and now I use a variety of Distros like Mint, Ubuntu, Bazzite, etc on my different PCs. I think the majority of #Linux users probably don't feel that strongly about their distro, but there's a vocal minority out there that make it look like we all do.

@ParanoidRV@infosec.exchange I bought an Unraid license back when you could purchase it one time (no sub required). I can't blame you for not wanting to try the subscription. If I was doing it all over again now, I might choose differently. At the time I bought it, it was easily less than a Windows license and the ability to use all my old mismatched HDs was pretty appealing. I'm at a point in my life now where it isn't actively costing me anything yet, so the momentum is all I need to stick with it.

@ParanoidRV@infosec.exchange I'm pretty much there now, I'm most comfortable in a Debian based distro. I do run Unraid for a NAS at home, which is Slack based (although they announced a change to their base distro coming up!). I do still really like Gentoo, and I give it a lot of credit for teaching me the inner workings of Linux. It is a great way to get over any fears of scripting, learning how the file structure works, etc. Steep learning curve, but you come out the other end pretty knowledgeable.

@RnDanger@infosec.exchange agreed! I'm not much for hobby distros, because I don't want to be switching and reinstalling all the time. Fun to spin up and check out a VM once in a while, but not my choice for a daily driver.

@ZachWeinersmith It isn't as much Chemistry, but my wife and I have been getting into make Shrub cocktails. They are a great way to use up some of your fruits in a unique way, and you get that kind of fun "mixology" feeling of making a cocktail. And you can always add a splash of gin or vodka if you wanted to make it alcoholic. We're in Central Nebraska, so we've mostly used Rhubarb, Wild Plums and Apples. We're trying to get some Raspberries established which I'm excited about using also.
