For the curious I used to fly in multiplayer combat sims and wanted a callsign related to my favourite book - Protector by Larry Niven. I wanted to be "belter" but that was taken so "b3lt3r" it was.

@Gargron@mastodon.social I am so fed up with ID being passed to external companies with no understanding or validation of what they do with it. One of the main companies used in the UK, Persona, was co-founded by Thiel. How on earth can *any* trust be put in any of his companies.
Lots of arguments about the how, but actually I strongly question the why. I simply do not believe the "protect the children" mantra. The goal is worthy, the method is not.

@_elena@mastodon.social I tried meshcore with 2 x heltecs, cases and ariels but even when messages started flowing it was just random text. I get the use case in areas with no other carrier, but (for me) anywhere there is mobile or WiFi *I* see no point tbh. They are in a drawer now 😊

If I'm in a formal setting I can speak BBC English but naturally it's the awful accent so it's "No.." 🙂

@nextcloud@mastodon.xyz I checked my setup(s) again and was surprised to see I was now running euro on both instances. That suggests to me that during one upgrade Nextcloud silently switched me away from Collabora which is not cool.
So now, I have one AIO running Collabora and one running Euro and will see which I prefer. Intuitively I lean to Collabora because of ODF but my suspicion is that, over time, Nextcloud AG will soften support for it in favour of the stated preferred option.
I get an insane amount of satisfaction from the ever more desperate emails entreating me to "come back" to services I left. Mate, if you'd just stayed as what I signed up for I'd likely still be there even if prices went up by around inflation. But you all got greedy enough to make me look around. Sometimes I found a different provider and sometimes I just realised I didn't need you.

My local garage has proudly informed me that they're working to save the environment by stopping washing the car when I bring it for service. But be of great joy - the money saved will go towards complimentary: Puncture repairs, seasonal, battery and brake health checks.
Colour me simple but I'd expect 3 of those were part of the service I pay £400+ for.... who knew.
In reality - I'm most annoyed on behalf of the lad who did the washing who I expect is now without work. Bastards.

Infosec people - I believe I've seen that Whatsapp now allows signup with only a username rather than mobile # but I've seen no analysis of what that actually means.
Can anyone point me at something explaining what isn't being said?
I closed all Meta accounts years ago for obvious reasons but Whatsapp is sadly the de-facto comms tool for many people I know and businesses.

Why is Proton worse? Well to install the CLI client you need to have a desktop installed. Wtf Proton? Without this I can't run a kill switch on my headless machines. The Mullvad vanilla wireguard configs could enable it but (again) Proton don't seem able.
