@catsalad @golgaloth I occasionally use diaereses in my variable names. it is someone rude that crates.io doesn't allow non-ascii in crate names, my current project is called gtfsржд (note that the р is U+440 CYRILLIC SMALL LETTER ER not an english p)

@ahihi@anticapitalist.party now i wonder what chinese-designed email would look like, had it been pre-us and imes had existed.
i would guess it would be least to most specific, as is done with names (family personal) and dates (year month day), something like com.example@user
no idea what the punctuation would be though. it seems like "。" is relatively old, but i'm not sure about "、"

@miss_rodent i have never done programming for retrocomputing, but i still think about variable sizes because my first C experience was for a microcontroller with 2kiB of ram, does that count?

@lethalbit bitmanip is in rva23, but i always forget riscv is "has a nice instruction for this, but not on your cpu", since somehow companies are still releasing non-rva23 silicon.

@alina@girldick.gay hyper is rude and lowercases all header names, i had to use wireshark to discover why i couldn't make api calls to some services that wanted case sensitive headers.
their opinion on the behaviour is "fix the servers", which does not help when one does not control the api servers.

@nickolasclarke @monoxane @jj @amyisard @alper @arianvp @noodlemaz I never "released" my outputs and shared the gtfs publically because i had trouble getting coordinates of the stations (the problem being that chinese stations have both a unique telegraph code and a non-unique pinyin code, and both wikidata and osm confuse them).
The source of the scraper is at https://git.mildlyfunctional.gay/artemist/play/src/branch/canon/rust/gtfs12306
It was written to generate gtfs schedule for the next 14 days. It probably still works, the website hasn't been greatly changed, but it definitely needs a VPN due to rate limiting. The current code is designed to be used from mullvad, which makes it easy to use socks5 to rotate proxies.

@gullevek@famichiki.jp @mjg59@nondeterministic.computer simplified and traditional chinese have their own codepoints if they have substantially different strokes, e.g. 見 vs 见.
i suspect a large reason for han unification was that they wanted to fit everything in 65536 codepoints, in which case separating them would not have been practical. they eventually gave up on that goal and there are now nearly 160k assigned codepoints, but it was too late.

@ryan@m29.us certainly not the only chinese open source project with an anime girl mascot, 安同OS ("AOSC OS"), a community linux distribution in china, has an official set of qq stickers for their bunny girl mascot wearing a qipao.
the designer of the kde and krita mascots, tyson tan, is also from china.

@paregorios@hcommons.social @ryan@m29.us nix4loong is chinese.
i would at least guess so, given that the website is in simplified chinese and it's referring to a mainland-targeted product, e.g. see https://nix4loong.cn/zh
(i thought they were the same entity as loonarch community, but they have different ICP registrations. they are related, though)

@fillertrack@slime.global it would be more interesting if batman referenced the in-depth story of an apocryphal ancient person, or a poem from 1000 years ago about the beauty of nature. empresses in the palace does that and it's fun to decode them.

@monoxane @jj @amyisard @alper @arianvp @noodlemaz it's occasionally possible to scrape data for gtfs-rt, e.g. it's been done for amtrak, but for most sites it would take too long to scrape their realtime data to be useful. non-real-time data is easier, i've done it for china and am currently working on doing it for russia.
