I never seen such a detailed write-up of any other talk I have given before as this one of my talk about using FOSS tools in FOSS projects by @jzb@hachyderm.io in @lwn@fedi.lwn.net I feel honored by the article, it really captures the spirit of my talk! https://lwn.net/SubscriberLink/1060649/915a0f56ade5d760/

RE: https://wikipediapodden.se/wikidata-notability-reform-356/

Yesterday, I had the chance to speak with @nightrose@mastodon.online about the ongoing Wikidata notability reform. In my opinion, a great summary of the lengthy discussions onwiki.

After the struggle trying to present on a Mac at the #wmhack showcase it feels good to have a better prepared video that explains the workflow on Commons now: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:CommonsDB_Wikimedia_hackathon_-_narrated_showcase_video.webm

@cr00ky I know. It just don't pass the open definition. (Nor is it listed as an approved open source license by the OSI.) So, a "hardware printer you can actually understand, repair, and upgrade" yes, but it is not open in the sense open is normally used when talking about open hardware or open source. I think the name either implies that they don't really understand the context they are in (which is bad) or that it is a case of open washing (which is worse).

I had a great time presenting Open licensing for the better sharing of climate data on behalf of @creativecommons@mastodon.social at #EUMETSAT2025. The program committee had lined up the talks in the track Open Science and FAIR Principles from wider topics to the more narrow and technical in the end that brought everyone along. Lots of good intentions in the room with people trying to influence organizations to increase sharing and collaboration.

It's the last Thursday of the month, so this afternoon at 15.00 CET it's time for a community call for the Standard for Public Code. The agenda looks fairly light, so there is plenty of room to add more or to ask questions during the call. https://www.standardforpubliccode.org/#community-calls
#PublicCode

standardforpubliccode.org

Guidance for government open source collaboration, Standard for Public Code

The Standard for Public Code - a model for public organizations to build their own open source solutions to enable successful future reuse by and collaboration with similar public organizations in other places.

@REA Some of the mentioned shows are not podcasts, as they lack RSS feeds. Please don't soil this beautiful open standard by pretending that shows that decide to be on proprietary platforms that don't let you play the shows in a regular podcast player but requires their own app really are podcasts.

@sl007 Regarding villages, as long as they can be reliably sourced that they actually exist, I am pretty sure there is a strong consensus that they are notable for Wikidata. But you say "write an article" which implies you are talking about Wikipedia. We never talked about notability of any of the other Wikimedia projects in this episode. @nightrose
