Well, I finished it, but the course was brutal, so I didn't get close to my time goal.
Lots of hills that I didn't train for, and 30km wind gusts!
But, it was still my first half in a decade, so I'll take it :)

RE: https://blahaj.zone/notes/aouc9lyn77jh0bdj
We went to parkrun today that we hadn't been to before, and it was cold, foggy, and the course was through grass that was just long enough to soak my shoes through with freezing cold winter dew. But, it was also the 3rd last run before the event closes permanently, which we didn't know until we got there. So I'm glad we went, even if it was too cold.
But the other upside of the cold weather, is that I ran my best parkrun in 7 years (since 2019)!
And next weekend is my first half marathon in 9 or so years! So it looks like that training is paying off!

Today's the day! The half marathon I've been training for for the last 6 months.
My main goal is to complete my first half marathon in a decade, at the same event I did my first ever half.
My stretch goal is to get under 2 hours. I don't think I'll pull that one off, but I'll certainly be giving it a go!

I hear we're doing visibility?
This was me yesterday, for TDOV (It’s already April 1 here in Australia) sitting in front of the worlds largest trans flag. Photo taken by the wonderful @supakaity.@blahaj.zone
Today is 9 years since I came out to my then 11 year old kid, and tomorrow is 9 years since I started medically transitioning.
I was 41 years old then. Trans awareness was just on the upkick. Everyone knew Caitlyn Jenner. Laverne Cox had appeared on the cover of TIME magazine… Yet I was still the first trans person most people had met.
At the time, my understanding of gender was very binary, and my own goals pretty much consisted of “Get transition out of the way, blend back in to the world, and get on with life without much talking about the trans thing”
But, I went to my first Pride, and I was changed forever. I was surrounded by my people, which wasn’t something I’d ever felt before. And with time, I came to have a more nuanced understanding of gender, and the artificial nature of the binary. And I also came to appreciate my own queerness, and completely lost the desire to blend in and hide amongst the society that had made it so hard to accept myself in the first place.
And now, I can’t help myself. I run gender diverse events, I create spaces and help foster queer communities. I stand loud and visible and proud, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
I see all of you glorious bitches, bastards and ne’er-do-wells, and I love you all!

Vernissage! It's a fediverse photo hosting/sharing platform, that's been around for a couple of years now, but hasn't had much traction or visibility. I just (re)discovered it recently, and after getting in and playing around with it more this time, I kinda fell in love with it. It's what I was hoping pixelfed would be, but never quite was.
Rather than an instagram like experience, this feels more like something filling the fediverse niche that flickr fills in the centralised web. It's designed from the ground up for photographers, and makes viewing exif data etc easy (though sadly that doesn't yet integrate well with pixelfed). It also supports HDR images (by allowing people to upload a HDR version and an SDR version), which means HDR doesn't break when federating out to pixelfed etc.
We've spun our own instance up, and unless something terrible goes wrong in the next week or so, I think I'll start to make moves to shut down our pixelfed instance (with plenty of warning) in favour of vernissage.
If you're interested in trying it out, the flagship instance is at https://vernissage.photos/, and the blahaj instance is at https://photos.blahaj.zone. Fair warning though, the blahaj instance isn't even 3 hours old yet, so it doesn't yet have a great deal of content! But that will change as content starts federating in

10km done and dusted!
My first 10km in 18 month, since I did the Bridge to Brisbane in 2024.
A long way from when I used to run 10km everyday, but that was chasing away demons, but equally, a long way from not running at all!

It's my local parkruns 10th anniversary tomorrow!
I didn't start running it until its second year, but I've been there ever since! And that means I've been parkrunning for over 10 years, though that slipped by my in August without me realising at the time!
I'm still amazed at the impact parkrun has had on me. I took it up because I had finished C25K, and a parkrun started where I would run every Saturday morning anyway. I assumed it would be full of super fast runners, and didn't really have a sense of there being a meaningful running community.
And yet, here I am 10 years later, still running, still volunteering. Even when I've been injured, or recovering from surgery, or simply didn't have my running mojo, I'd still turn up at parkrun.
303 runs at 34 different parkruns, across 2 countries.
211 volunteers across 16 distinct roles. Event Director - 81 times, Run Director - 41 times across 2 different parkruns, Photographer - 18 times, and then Pacer, Event Setup and VI Guide 13 times each, and a scattering of other roles.
I even transitioned during my parkrun career, whilst being an active run director at my first parkrun. I believe I may have been parkruns first openly transgender run director, but I'm not certain of that.
To say that parkrun has been a big part of my life is probably understating it!

Another week of running down! 16 weeks left until my HM.
This week, I had a slightly easier week than last week. Just over 4 hours on my feet, 34km down. Aside from parkrun and a single Tabata run on Tuesday, it was all slow training miles. Next week should pick up the pace a bit, with more speedwork planned!
One of the challenges with my running is that I'm carrying more weight than I want to at the moment, which is making it harder to hold pace, as I tend to overheat more than I should. The cool weather will help, and hopefully I'll reduce my body fat levels too, but that latter effort is happening a bit more slowly than I would like.

My week in running
Just under 40K in total for the week. I started with parkrun and a couple of shorter interval style runs, and finished the week with a 9km and 10km run.
Next week is looking to be similar!
#parkrun #running #workout #TrainAsOne
Here is (most of) my lifetime of running, as shown in TrainAsOne over 11 years. It started when I was 39, and shows up until now, when I'm 50.
It includes two bouts of pneumonia, three surgical recoveries, covid lockdowns, and a hormonal gender transition.
What's facinating to me though is that my current total load is almost equal to what it was when I was at the peak of my running form, and my acute (short term) load is higher than it was back then!
The second image shows the change in my pace over those years. Each line represents my pace at a different point, whether it be my pace at my VO2Max, my lactate threshold or my maximum running efficiency.
Looking at it all in one place didn't really tell me anything new as such, but it's pretty amazing to be able to view my entire running history in one place like that

Help me out fedi folk.
I remember reading about a relay service that let individuals follow a hashtag by having users follow an actor account on the relay, rather than having the admin add it as a relay.
However, now I can't remember what the service was! Can someone help me out?

Sorry, Uruguayans, but I think I prefer Argentine mate. My mum just got her hands on a Uruguayan blend (Abuelita), so I had to try it. The finer cut of the yerba makes for an interesting experience. The first mouth full almost felt like a kick in the teeth, it was so full on! It settled down after that, but the fine cut also makes it harder to just casually sip at. It feels like an effort to get that water flowing throught bombilla
