Undiscovered Scotland
Undiscovered Scotland is a combination of visitor guide, accommodation listing and business directory which aims to show you what the country is really like.
The Sunhoney recumbent stone circle, standing in a copse of trees near Echt in Aberdeenshire and apparently largely undisturbed since it was placed here over 4,000 years ago. More pics and info: https://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/echt/sunhoneycircle/index.html
The majestic and amazingly complete remains of the abbey church at Jedburgh Abbey in the Scottish Borders. It was founded in 1138 and developed over several centuries, despite repeatedly falling victim to cross-border conflict. The recreated crannog on Loch Tay, at the Scottish Crannog Centre. It has since been sadly destroyed but is being replaced nearby. This is a type of dwelling that 2,500 years ago would have been a common sight across Scotland and Ireland. More pics and info: https://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/kenmore/crannogcentre/index.html
The mercat cross in Culross, on the north shore of the Firth of Forth in Fife. This is one of Scotland's best conserved and most beautiful villages and the nearest thing you'll find in the country to a 16th century time capsule. Tobermory, the beautiful island capital of the Isle of Mull. It is probably still known to some visitors as TV's Balamory; and its harbour is said to be home to the sunken wreck of a Spanish Armada ship and its cargo of gold. One of Scotland's most painted (and photographed) views, the lovely village of Plockton in Lochalsh, near the seaward end of Loch Carron and five miles north-east of Kyle of Lochalsh. More pics and info: https://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/plockton/plockton/index.html
Hermitage Castle, in a remote corner of the Scottish Borders south of Hawick. This is a castle with a truly forbidding reputation and atmosphere, and in our picture is oddly reminiscent of the figure in Edvard Munch's "The Scream". Viking hogback gravestones, part of the amazing collection of carved early medieval stones, known as the Govan Stones, on display in Govan Old Church in the heart of the town. More pics and info: https://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/glasgow/govanstones/index.html

280 years ago today.
